The film had its moments, but then it had its really stupid moments too. SPOILERS

For example, why did magic consciousness helmet work on a robot? Why writers decide to have almost every protagonist cheat death? Why are we suddenly supposed to sympathize with the thugs at the end of the movie when they were portrayed as so unsympathetic through the rest of the movie.Why did they go out of their way to to portray all Christians as evil (and with Hugh Jackman’s character it was to ridiculous, comical and largely unexplained extent).

I think the worst part was they never really examined the decision to create Chappie at all. The protagonist recklessly gave life to something and never really considered how it might feel to be his creation. That would be interesting, and even realistic, if the movie had paid that fact any mind.

Yep, creating a ‘living, thinking’ AI in a robot with a fused battery was a completely insensitive and reckless choice that never really explained itself.

Why not just take the head and put it on a new body? It was supposedly all plug and play.

Was a big dissapointment.

“Hippo” was probably the most one dimensional villain I ever saw in a movie.

Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver were not used to their full potential, and their appearances in the movie are therefore somewhat wasted.

Dev Patel was the only one (other than Sharlto Copley) who tried to act. The Antwoord are devoid of any talent in this regard, and Blomkamp’s decision to build the movie around them was a big mistake.
