Tonks,

I’m going to preface this by saying that this is my opinion. I think one of the problems with certain charismatic communities, is that they focus too much on certain gifts and eventually miss the point.

The 3 days of darkness is a “private” revelation, so it’s not something that all catholics have to believe. Christ gave us all the protection we need against said three days, in the Church and Sacraments… So the trick is to stay in good standing with the Lord, and dont’ worry about it. As for them “noticing signs of impending doom,” people have been playing that game for years. I’m gonna take Christ on his word that we won’t know the “day or the hour.”

The point of the charismatic movement is to draw closer to God in his Church especially through the Eucharist, and to use the gifts He gives us to bring others to his kingdom. The point is not to find out when the worlds gonna end, and then scare people into jumping on the bandwagon.

Again, my opinion.

God Bless
Nate

I hope you make it to the end of this post - in the mesage below there is very little that we have not already seen, and seen for a long time…

The information below is from an Opus Dei Alert Website

THE PROXIMATE SIGNS

Here are the proximate signs in their probable order of occurrence. This, to be sure, is only my own opinion, and I may be wrong for I am no prophet myself; but, after studying a large number of prophecies, this order appears to me to be the most likely:

Flouting of church laws, irreverence and immodesty in church, fall in attendance at church.
Lack of charity towards others, heartlessness, indifference, divisions, contentions, godlessness, pride in human knowledge.
Breakdown of family life: immorality, adultery, perversion of youth via the media (e.g. homosexuals giving lectures in schools), immodest fashions (e.g. mini-skirts, bikinis, see-throughs), people concerned only with eating, drinking, dancing and other pleasures.
Civil commotions, contempt for authority, downfall of governments, confusion in high places, corruption, coups d’etat, civil war, revolution. (The first four proximate signs have already come to pass, at least partly; for we are yet to see civil war and revolution in the West. But the sequence of events is not strictly chronological; there is room for some overlapping. Thus, the 5th proximate sign seems to have begun also.)
Floods and droughts, crop failures, unusual weather, tornadoes, earthquakes, tidal waves, famines, epidemics, unknown diseases (e.g. new strains of viruses).

THE WARNING

This will take place between the proximate and the immediate signs. It will be a supernatural occurrence.

During the Warning, everyone will be made aware of his/her own sinfulness, and many will wish to die, but the Warning itself will be completely harmless.

The Warning must be viewed as the last act of mercy from God, a final appeal to mankind to do penance before the three days of darkness and the destruction of three-quarters of the human race. At a time when the murder of unborn babies and the sin of Sodom and Lesbos have become respectable and sometimes legal, we should not wonder why God is going to punish mankind.

By that time, war and revolution will have already caused a high deathtoll, and Communism will be victorious, but all this will be as nothing compared with the deathtoll caused by the Three Days. **

The author of this peice died in 1979 -Communism is NOT victorious, all though at that time I suppose many people may have thought it was a likelihood.

As a Catholic Charismatic - I pray a lot for others, and ask for the intercession of the souls in purgatory for many intentions. I personally do NOT believe I have a gift of evagelism to spread the word of the impending doom from God’s wrath. I do have a call to teach people about the love of a “Daddy” to His children, and how we, His children ought to respond to a loving “Daddy.”

Contrary to popular Fundamentalist Protestantism, we do not need to “scare the hell” out of people to “scare them into a Heaven.”

I refer you to the Gospel in which our Lord warned against this type of concern. (Wars, flood, famine, drought, viruses, apostacy of every type have occurred in every age and here were are still worrying.) Worry is a geat tool of the devil to distract us from focusing on the Worry Solver. 😉

This is not a note to be complacent, but to expend your enegies and prayers in more profitable efforts!

May the PEACE of God reside with you.

I totally understand where you are coming from, Nate. This seems to be the problem that I’m having with the particular charismatic group my co-worker is a part of. There seems to be a lot of mysticism, prophecy-type forcasts, locutions, etc. that she seems to be really centered on. Though I know her intentions are good, I just don’t particularly like the idea that her actions yesterday “scared” some of the Catholics at my workplace. Not cool, in my opinion.

As for the prophecy itself, yes, I do understand that it is private revelation, and I understand that Church’s stance on it. I’ve seen both the Opus Dei Alert website and Catholic Healing.com website, as well as being aware of the many books out there talking about end-times prophecy, both pro and con. I do believe that the charismatic movement contributed greatly towards bringing many Catholics into a closer relationship with God, and have kept them faithful and obedient to the Magisterium. I marvel at what the Holy Spirit can do, and the fruits are evident. Still, I think there does need to be a balance in how this is utilized and staying within the guidelines of the Church, who I feel has not let us down in terms of faith and morals.

Thanks everyone so far for your (name removed by moderator)ut! 👍

I don’t know where you got that quote, but it is not from one of the Spanish children in this unapproved apparition of Garabandal, which has no ties to the CCR. What you have is a mix of Saints predictions put into someones timeline and tied to current world events. That I don’t put any stock in it at all. The three days is from Blessed Anna Maria Taigi writings and the warning from Garabandal which is unapproved by the Church. And this is from an Opus Dei Alert Website!?? They are pretty anti-Opus Dei. What do they have to do with the CCR? Thanks,Tim

Dearesst all who seek to know and love Jesus more, all my brothers and sisters in the Lord, wherever you are,

I realize that when people think of prophecy, they are also led in our day to think of the Charismatic renewal. Well maybe that is both good and bad, kind of like free will. (okay it is comepletely good, it is awesome to have free will, yes, praise you Lord and thank you Father God of Heaven! You Lord are wonderful.

Well, that said, I think that yes indeed we are starting to drift from the hopes of this thread somewhat. Now don’t get me wrong, I believe that I can see why this happened.

Maybe this subject could be discussed in a thread of itself. I am sure that you could have a great discussion about it, pros and cons. I feel more focused on helping people by proclaiming the love of God through Jesus Christ and what He did for us.

Of course it is not wrong to want to help others as she has been trying to do. She is just trying to follow her understanding of the message of Jesus and that my friend makes her a good woman. She is trying and sincere. Maybe you can discuss the warnings and what catholics have been recommended to do about them. That might be a great blessing for her.

But!!! Let us get back to the topic at hand, for the Praise and Glory of God: The Charismatic Renewal and fellowship in the Holy Spirit. And of course, for those who do not know yet, we are proclaiming that Jesus loves you so much that He wants you, even today, to be filled to overfolowing with His holy Spirit, to become a fire of God’s love for the world and reach out in love to all who are in need of the Wonderful love of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Come Holy Spirit, come and fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit Lord, and we shall be created. Send forth Your Spirit Lord! And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Come and see! You will be filled with love through the laying on of hands and the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

I noticed to quote about the warning because I have studied it. I went through this experience two years ago along with a “consolation” that followed. The residual effect of this intervention was visions, which is the only reason I even consider the CCR. I believe in the gifts even though I’m traditional in worship. This puts me on the fence. If it goes against anything the Church has approved, I will walk away from it. That is why I was concerned about a reference to an anti Opus Dei and anti St. Jose Maria Escriva website. This Saint was recommended to me by my SD and anything involved with the slander of such a Saint would not only be against my direction , but against the Church. So I was giving representitives of the CCR an opportunity to disown this Opus Dei Alert website and to straighten out the misinformation about the warning and three days of darkness. Tim

hi everybody , well i am glad to find a thread on charismatic catholic fellowship. I used to pray with charismatic movement for about two years in my country. the movement really encouraged me to pray freely in spirit. But when i saw division among the movement my heart is really broken. When there is growth in spiritual life there comes pride . If someone starts to work with gifts of the holy spirit for instance the tongues or healing gifts he feels that he has controlled everything but in my guess not so. I think in one’s spiritual life obidence is the most important factor without obiedence we can not fully surrender to holy spirit.

I have a question now i have started a new way , the neucatecumenal, I feel that God is calling to this way , to this community. Can someone help me what the difference are there between the neucatecumenals and the charismatic movements?
thank you
May the holy spirit enlighten our hearts Amen

I have heard that the neo-catucumenal group is not supported by the church in the way that the charismatic renewal is. I am not sure, but I just heard that once. I have not investigated it myself.

I do not think that they are so much open to the gifts of teh Holy Spirit that we talk about in the renewal. Maybe some members are but I don’t think that that group speaks or teaches about the gifts mentioned in 1 Cor 12 and in other places of scripture.

I hope that we can really talk about the renewal again. There are many off topic stuff coming in to send this thread in the wrong direction. I don’t think that people mean to do that but I think that sometimes this happens when God wants to send forth the Holy Spirit to people in a powerful way, Satan comes and snatches the fruit!

I pray that God helps us to know the love of Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Top, You said that there are some things that you are not correctly understanding about the renewal, what exactly is preventing you from joining a prayer group?

may His love guide us,

Flame of Christ

Flame of Christ, thanks for the great links. I have already ordered the Daughters of St. Paul CD. I have a CD of praise music from Steubenville University that I have been wearing out, so this is great! The article is a good one too - I made a copy and am takiing it to my prayer group next week. How true that so many Catholics look at Charismatics a bit askance - they don’t quite know what to make of us! Our church is planning its first “Life in the Spirit” seminar for next year, so I would appreciate prayers for us! I worry about how it will be received as we are a very small group in a very small parish - but then I remember to leave it in the Lord’s hands. I am relatively new to all of this but what an awesome, awesome experience. It has truly changed my life! My faith has come alive. What a beautiful gift from God - I still can’t believe that everyone isn’t rushing in for the baptism in the Spirit.

I would like to apologize for saying that about Satan coming to steal the fruit. I think that sometimes I speak without thinking, and that was not a very true thing to say about threads going in different directions. That was very inconsiderate of me and cruel.

I am sorry about that everyone, I hope that you will not judge the renewal on what a lousy person says. Please look into what the Holy Spirit is doing and not what I am doing, (there is a big difference).

God bless you

And thank you Maggie Ann for your beautiful post.

RIGHT NOW! If you have GOD.TV (on satellite) channel 365, a FIRST EVER broadcast is coming LIVE from Uganda with Pastor Benny Hinn with 75000 people in attendance. It’s not Catholic but it’s Charismatic. Judge for yourself - discern - is this from God or not?

I have just finished reading through the posts.
I received my Baptism in the Spirit on Ascension Thursday in 1983. It is the Lord Himself who brought me into the renewal, something with which I was totally unfamiliar before my life hit its greatest crisis.
I would drive 50 miles to the nearest meeting. This all came to an end, the day my car took a 75 foot drop off a cliff. I was on the way to another retreat. I walked away from that accident, not knowing about my injury (why my lifelong headaches were becoming even worse) for another year. Because I lived in a small town, parishioners already knew about my accident before I even told anybody other than the police.
I now live in a city where I have the option of attending meetings twice a week in a diocese with a Charismatic Bishop.

BTW - judge for yourself - below is a link from a source listing itself as a charismatic website.

Hi Stephen,

I took the liberty of checking out the website that you posted. I went into the Catholic healing articles section and found this posted at the top of the page.

I thank God for he granted us Vatican 2nd, a wonderful transformation for our church. Charismatic renewal ,neocatecumenals and other communities are the fruits of the church and they are very important for the growth of the church. Well I can pray with charismatics nothing will prevent me but why there are divisions among the charismatics? in my experience many left the church even they were from the leaders of the movement.

What I find on other threads is a misconception/understanding of the least of our gifts, the gifts of tongues. It does appear as gibberish to outsiders unaware of the interior tranformation that takes place inside. How have others responded?

3 Principles of Spiritual Renewal (Pope Paul VI)
1)Faithfulness to the authentic teaching fo the faith
2) Grateful reception of gifts
3) Supremacy of love over all the other gifts.

What a good ministry you and your friend have! Thanks for the help offer. It is vary difficult finding a prayer group similar to what I am accustom to. I am looking for a prayer group that has over it, a Spiritual Director, is in a parish, and has a Priest/Bishop also as part of their authority. For me, a Charismatic prayer group MUST stay under the authority of the church, following her doctrine. I am finding that some prayer groups are kind of doing their own thing without a Church covering, and I am not comfortable with that. I also look for the fruits of the prayer group. That says a lot.

Have you ever been to a Praise and Worship Adoration? The parish I was a member of last holds them monthly. There are usually about 100+ people who attend, and it continues to grow. It actually is a vary traditional church, but our Priest is so Spirit filled and such a Holy man that it oozes out all over. After our trip to Medugorje, the Lord, with his Holy Spirit and our Blessed Mother, had big plans for Fr. Bill. It was so exciting to see it all take place and grow.

I was thinking of talking to the music minister and Priest of my new parish, and invite them to take a road trip to experience the Praise & Worship Adoration, (in a parish that dose it properly), in hopes to get one started in our parish.

I think I will start a thread on that. “Praise and Worship Adoration”. Might be a good one. :angel1:
Have a Blessed Day!

Do any of you out there have experiences with Praise & Worship Adoration? Want to share your experiences? Churches they take place in? How has the Holy Spirit moved you or someone you know, to be in closer union with God, through Praise & Worship Adoration? What were the fruits that came out of it?
:harp: :byzsoc: :crossrc:

Have a Holy Spirit Day!

Hi isabella1. I am new too but always happy to see another Charismatic replying to these threads - especially one concerned with not hurting the feelings of others! This thread appears to be a particulalry good one. While I think it’s okay to disagree, you can still do it with love and kindness, not chastisement, as you point out! It is intimidating. Blessings of the Holy Spirit, God the Father, and the Son to you, too!
I guess all of us newbie’s :tiphat: we will all be learning and sharing together, on how to effectively respond to and post new threads. Trial and error, as always. But now we have a pretty safe place to do it in. God Bless your day.
