Oh Yes I have Isabella,

There is a group about an hour away from where I live that holds a monthly Praise and Worship in teh Presence of teh Blessed Sacrament. It is a deep time of worship and I have been increasingly blessed there. Some of the most wonderful profecies have surfaced during these times of Worship of our Lord.

It is a talented group of musicians that really help keep it living, in fact, one of the main musicians of this particular prayer grou pis the a priest by the name of Fr. Peter Sanders. He has been involved in teh Renewal for many years now and is a peaceful man.

Well I would like to suggest that you really do try to get that started in your parish. Although beginning can sometimes be alot of effort, if the Lord really wants it to happen, then He will send you others to help this grow.

And don’t hesiate to email me if want a little help connecting with the Charismatic Renewal in your area!

Thanks for sharing. It is always a delight to hear of priests that are involved. I know that getting something started may be an undertaking, and our enemy would only be to glad to see something like this just go right out the door. As you said, if the Lord wills this, it will grow. Thanks for the encouragement. Peace in Christ Jesus our Lord & Savior.
 
I can’t wait till I can find a Charismatic Catholic prayer group again. 🙂
 
Well, Holly, I can’t see that you’ll get much help from any of us since you live in the United States of America. It might help if you could narrow that down a bit. In the meantime, how about starting a prayer group on the Forum? Or maybe the Fellowship is already a prayer group?

I’m not Catholic but I am dating a Catholic. Coming from a Pentacostal background I am feeling very … well off in his church. (He is Roman Catholic.) I am happy to find this thread!! Can someone tell me where to find out more information about Charismatic Catholics and Where I might find a church near Danville, Ky? I am about an hour from Lexington, Ky if that helps.

So can someone just help me out with some specifics? When looking up the information listed for me I found Prayer Groups and Praise and Worship groups. So these are not like regular church things I take it but extras?

Catholics attend Mass. Mass always includes the Liturgy of the Word plus the Liturgy of the Eucharist. This is our regular worship service.
Prayer groups, which may be known as Praise and Worship groups meet together outside Mass. These meetings provide opportunity for intercessory prayer, beyond that said during the Mass. They also provide opportunity for teaching, fellowship, and above all praise and worship through our expression of the charismatic gifts.
 
Why are they not involved in the regular Mass if they were also gifts from God like the Word and the Eucharist?

The Catholic Church does not focus on the charismatic gifts as a requirement for salvation. The gifts which we have received are placed at the service of the Church for the upbuilding of the Church as a whole.
As mentioned by Holly, sometimes we do have Charismatic Masses, a fantastically awesome experience. Currently that is not the norm. When it becomes the norm, the term “charismatic” will drop from our vocabulary.
Meanwhile we serve as lectors, catechists, or in whatever other role God calls us within our parish communities. We join others who may not yet have the gifts with which we have been blessed in prayer and service.

This may be another way of approaching your question. Everybody attends Mass, at least on Sunday. A parish will have other activities and opportunies for worship. These opportunities may include novenas, Eucharistic adoration, the rosary, plus Praise and Worship groups. A person may attend any or all of these but is not required to. If a person has a great singing voice he/she may use it in the choir. Another person with the gift for service may volunteer at a homeless shelter or simply cook for one of the parish functions. In other words, everybody does have a gift to offer. It simply may not be what we call charismatic or pentecostal.
 
I would like to agree with some of the last comments. I came into contact with the Charismatic Renewal many years ago. I still know a lot of the people who were at the prayer meetings with me. An amazing number of them don’t attend Charismatic prayer meetings much any more. However, they tend to be rock-solid people in their parishes. They attend Mass every Sunday, rain or shine. They are Eucharistic Ministers and choir members. Some of them bring Communion to the sick. They have hospital ministries, and other activities, such as being active in Marriage Encounter or maybe even St. Vincent DePaul.

I still like to go to a Charismatic event at least once a year. It is like a spiritual shot in the arm.
 
Hi all. This is my first time posting in the spirituality forum, and I’m so happy I found this thread.

I’m, I guess you could say, fascinated, with the Charismatic movement. However, I’ve never personally experienced it. Part of my interest comes from attending missions w/ Brendan Case and Fr. Larry Richards, and learning that Mother Angelica (EWTN foundress-LOVE HER!) was charismatic at one time.

So, how does one discern if he/she’s charismatic? I’m open to the Holy Spirit (in fact, I pray daily to receive the fruits of the Spirit, as described in scripture), but I’ve never spoken in tongues or rested or been “slain” in the Spirit, but I’ve never really had any opportunities for this. My parish is pretty traditional. We don’t have a charismatic mass, and we had a prayer group at one time, but it disbanded b/f I was ever able to attend. There is a prayer group at a neighboring parish, and a parish about 40 minutes away from me has a charismatic mass every Saturday night at 7:30. I would love to attend both of these, but I’m a little nervous. Can anyone describe a prayer service and charismatic mass to me? TIA.

I did not even know what the Charismatic Renewal was, when in the midst of crisis I made an Easter Retreat. I lived in WI at the time and found myself returning to the Retreat House for Thursday evening prayer group, even during the winter, until a car accident brought my 50 mile weekly trek to an end.
The format of a charismatic prayer group is as varied as its members. The one I currently attend is an intercessory group with a fairly set format. We begin with praise and giving thanks for the blessings of the past week.Occasionally there will be a short teaching but mostly we intercede for one another and for the community. Other prayer groups are less formal. Common denominators of these prayer groups are songs of praise. Some of us may dance. There may be prophecy spoken and prayer in tongues.
A charismatic Mass follows the same format as every other Mass. During the Mass, the gifts may be expressed as the Spirit leads. The healing Mass is the most common charismatic Mass where I now live. After the Mass, pairs or trios of Charismatic leaders will take positions in the front of the church. Individuals will come forward for prayer. The common element in any prayer group or Charismatic Mass is the leading of the Holy Spirit to which we respond in love and trust.
If you do go to the neighboring parish, you may ask for members of the prayer group to pray over you. It is wonderful that a parish offers weekly Charismatic Masses. The zeal of a priest who has received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not to be missed.
 
Ok, it’s been a couple of months since this thread was posted in but I just thought I’d bump it up anyway for those who want to participate in it. 🙂
