Hi DebChris, I’m registered at the Charimatic Center - recently.
It’s not fast moving, is it? I haven’t found a place there yet to post.
Someday I will. This place seems really nice.
 
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

It is hard to believe that our 7th annual conference for the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Birmingham is almost upon us. I have included a link to our website: catholiccharismaticrenewal.org/ for you to reserve the dates of** September 26 & 27, 2008. You will notice we have a great line-up with our new Bishop, the Most Reverend Robert Baker, Fr. Bill Halbing, Sr. Ann Shields, SGL.** and much, much more!

This year’s conference theme is, “Ignite the Fire (again) Lord!” Jesus said, "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! (Luke 12: 49) You will notice that, “again” is in parenthesis, because we hope to not only introduce the awesome power of the Holy Spirit to many for the first time, but also to re-ignite that fire in those whose flame has grown weak.

I will post more info as I receive it.
Plan on coming and spend time visiting EWTN.

I’ve also experienced **‘resting in the Spirit’ **and it never occurred to me that it wasn’t talked about in Scripture! Possibly it comes from Sacred Tradition? Not sure!

Of course, I guess the important thing is not so much the ‘resting’ but how we respond when we get back up!

I’ve never witnessed or heard of holy laughter. But I’ve heard Pentecostals talk about being drunk with the Spirit. Wonder if that’s maybe the same thing? I’ve never seen that either, I just heard about it!

I am a former protestant charismatic/pentecostal convert. I have never heard it called “resting in the Spirit”! I like that! Much better than “slain in the Spirit”

The laughter and being “drunk” are similar. Different events for different needs. The difference/problem is when the congregation seeks those manifestations of the Spirit instead of just allowing the Spirit to flow naturally.

I have been in meetings where the Spirit was working powerfully, bringing repentance, deliverance, salvation and healing to many. Many were “resting in the Spirit”, laughing with the joy of receiving new life in Christ, weeping in repentance or dancing with praise. It was glorious!

I have also been to meetings where people were trying to “force” the manifestations. There was a ‘spirit’ there, but not from the Lord. Not so glorious.

I am thinking about attending.

As the time gets closer, I’ll decide then.

I’ve never been to anything charismatic…so…this will be a new experience for me.

“Come and see.” I would second what Altesse posted. Be open and let the Holy Spirit take the lead. Don’t force anything.
If God wants you there, He will clear your schedule.

Is there anything that I should do to prepare myself?

The only reason that I ask… my BIL is a Church of God pastor. I’ve been to their church once and I felt really out of place and uncomfortable. But I’m wondering if CCR experience will different. I don’t know. But I’m all for being open to the Holy Spirit!

Hello everyone! I am posting the CCR of the Diocese of Scranton, PA. I will be attending this conference…whoo hoo!!! It is August 1st, 2nd & 3rd, 2008. The speakers this year are: Maria Vadia, Fr. John Gordon, Fr. Celsus Auguiste, Walter Matthews and Bishop Sam Jacobs.

I can’t wait!!! 👍

It has been a long time since I have been able to attend a conference.
What is important is that you are, as you said, open to the Holy Spirit. Bring a bible and possibly something to write on. Other than that, just bring yourself. Using the words from the second conference I attended, “Come not for information, but for transformation.”
Usually there is a book table where you can purchase books for spiritual growth.

Yes, I think it is good just to come and say here I am Lord.

I think it will be a different experience for you. I use to go with my SIL to her church, which was Assembly of God, occassionally. The difference I really see is ‘order’. I think as Catholics it is in our nature and seems to be what God has taught us, is that He is a God of order and propiety. So really even when the Holy Spirit is moving mightly among us, there always seems to be this ‘order’ that takes place. That in itself, allows for freedom of movement and peace.

I am thinking about beginning to attend the new Charismatic Catholic Prayer Meeting in my area but I am limited on gas.

This is something that I understand. I do not own a car (something to pay about for other reasons). I live in a medium sized city so I can ride the city bus to prayer group. Somebody always gives me a ride home.

Thanks. I will actually be able to make it to the meeting Monday night. I am going to school for an MEd (one place where owning a car would be helpful). My classes start again this week.
