Is there anything wrong with the Charismatic Movement? I have been attending the Steubenville Retreats for a while and will soon be old enough to start attending again as a chaperone. Most traditional Catholics hate it and other moderate catholics are taken aback by the way things are conducted, however, I feel as though these kinds of retreats are the best way to bring young people to Christ.
Just as society has changed through the years shouldn’t the way we bring others to the faith change as well? Why is there objections to it? I see nothing at these conferences that are against our Catholic faith.

Just watched the video, and my first thought was, are they in the world or of the world? It smacks to me of “hey, look at us, we can party as hard as you!”

I also wonder, if this is what it takes to bring young people to the Catholic faith, is it not “bait and switch”? It seems like they take a small subsection of the Catholic universe and emphasize that to the exclusion of the rest of the Catholic universe.

BTW, read this survey of teens and discover that what many people assume about what Catholic young people want regarding music in the liturgy is not actually what Catholic young people find suitable in the liturgy. What they actually find suitable, above all, is traditional choral music. I quote: "The findings showed, however, that this large and diverse group of adolescents gave the highest ratings of appropriateness to traditional choral music and the lowest to Christian rock music."

Hmm…

The video is, like a movie trailer, it is used to help draw teens and youth groups in but once you get there you realize this is not a place to only have fun and be with your friends. You listen to talks on Christ and His love for us, talks on repentance follow later on by confession, there are also talks on spirituality with a huge emphasis on personal prayer. There is Eucharistic adoration on Friday and Saturday as well as Mass Saturday and Sunday Morning. Also the we pray the Rosary through out the entire weekend as whole (ranging from 4,000-6,000 teens)
The music is amazing and really draws in the teens to praise God.

It really changed my life and I’ve been living the faith as best I can ever since. I’ve been involved with my youth group for sometime and I’ve seen that in the world we live in now this is the best way to show teens that God’s love for us is real and that Jesus is not just a story book character from CCD classes.

no when liturgies and other activities are conducted in accord with the approved rites and laws there is nothing wrong with the CCR, it is an approved spirituality in the Church, and the conflict between charistmatics and traditionalists is a false one, and Steubenville is the best place to demonstrate this, as those involved often consider themselves to be both. Just because it is not your spirituality or mine does not make it wrong or bad.

I am very happy to hear that. I believe that as teens grow in there faith in Christ they will seek more traditional forms of worship. But as they drive there cars i’d rather them blast some Christian-Catholic rock than any of the sinful music that dominates the music industry.

Check out- Matt Maher very good and very Catholic
