For the sake of argument lets say that the Catholic Charismatic movement is in fact of the Holy Spirit. Does this also apply to the Protestant Charismatics?
I have never read of one account where, while speaking in tongues, the Holy Spirit told the Protestants to leave their beliefs behind and join the Catholic Church for it is the one true Church. Seems to me there should be massive conversions from the Protestant Charismatic movement to the Catholic Church if in fact speaking in tongues and being slain in the spirit is from God.

Some Catholics have become Protestant in recent years … since Vatican 2. I think its mainly to enjoy more lenient moral standards.

Same desires probably wouldn’t apply to the Catholic Charismatics … althought some may have decided to join the Pentecostals to practice the gift of tongues that they excell at.

But if the gift of tongues if from the Holy Spirit and
Pentecostals “excell” at this, why hasn’t the Holy Spirit spoken to them and revealed to them that the Catholic Church is the One True Church founded by Christ outside of which there is no salvation?

Well, there ARE a lot of converts from the Pentecostal churches. But the Holy Spirit is FAMOUS for not staying in the house. “The spirit bloweth where it listeth.” If the Holy Spirit stayed exclusively in the house, there would be no conversions at all.

Maybe if a Catholic Charismatic among them did the interpretation thereof … the Pentecostals might hear a message to join the Universal Church. 🙂

I believe the Charasmatic Movement is a heresy. This movement was introduced into the Church by Penticostals.

The gift of speaking in tongues was a gift for the early Church and Apostolic times.
After the Apostolic age, this gift disappeared.

.
Well, if that be the case … why haven’t the last 2 Popes spoken out against it ?

Apparently they have given their blessing to those Charismatic Catholics who have the rare gift.

It would be rash to say that the Apostolic gifts vanished completely and forever with the apostolic age. Certainly they are no longer NORMATIVE but would we deny that some have been channels of healing throughout the history of the Church, down to this day? While the widespread eruption of the Charismatic experience in the 1960s and '70s may have been a bubble, much good arose from it; many had their faith strengthened.

Although never close to the movement, I never encountered any Catholic Charismatic who was not a faith-filled, on-fire Christian.

I’m not saying that abuses have not existed. But I have never seen them.

Pope John paul II was extremely incompetent when it came to Charismatic movement and other things.

Pope Benedict has been quiet about it. He does not approve of it, but has made no serious move to stop the movement.

Hundreds of thousands or millions of Catholics around the world claiming to speak in tongues. A rare gift? More like a mass hysteria and emotional gibberish.

There have bben less than 200 cases I believe of Catholics speaking in tongues in the last 1800 years. Now in the last 30 years we have this explosion? More like the work of the devil.

Looks like the recent Popes view it this way. Whatever they bind … we must accept as legit.

And it seems to have been a “bubble.” Meetings that used to draw 30,0000 now gather only about 1500.

Cardinal Ratzinger did speak about it in an interview that he gave in 1986.

On the Charismatic Movement: “ I myself have observed the effectiveness of the Movement. In Munich I saw a number of good vocations to the priesthood come from it…like every other reality entrusted to human beings, it too is exposed to misunderstandings, misinterpretations and exaggerations. But it would be dangerous to see only the risks and not also the gifts offered by God. The necessary caution does not alter my fundamentally positive judgment.
…it is essential, above all, to maintain a balance, to beware of an exclusive emphasis on the Spirit……A wrong overemphasis could lead to setting against the hierarchy structured Church a ‘charismatic’ Church based only on the ‘freedom of the Spirit’, a Church that regards herself as a continually new ‘happening’…maintaining balance also means keeping the proper relationship between institution and charism, between the Church’s common faith and person experience…We must be aware of a too-easy ecumenism which can lead Catholic charismatic groups to lose their identity and, in the name of the “Spirit” uncritically associate with forms of Pentecostalism of non-Catholic origin. Catholic renewal groups must therefore ‘think with the Church’ more than ever. They must always act in unity with the bishop, not least so that they will avoid the consequences that always arise when Holy Scripture is taken out of its context in the fellowship of the Church, which results in fundamentalism and the marks of the esoteric group and sect.” -Ratzinger Report

“Pope John Paul II” and “incompetent” in the same sentence  ? Them be fightin’ words buddy!!!

Pope Benedict has been quiet about it. He does not approve of it,
And he’s told you this? Or are you a mindreader?

but has made no serious move to stop the movement.
He has written about it (see above post) – I would suggest you read it.

And on the day of Pentecost, the Apostles were drunk…

Where do you get these figures from?

Now in the last 30 years we have this explosion? More like the work of the devil.
IF your above figures ARE correct, maybe the Holy Spirit thought it was high time to again sweep through the Church with a divine breath of fresh air.

It is so sad in my estimation that the least of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, tongues, seems to be the pivot point about which all else, positive or negative about the Charismatic movement revolves. It’s like saying I don’t like babies because they fill their diaper with poo. 😃
