Sure, his name is Fr. Jozo and his parish was St. James in Medjugorje. He is a Franciscan.

I have no reason to doubt you, and as I said, please believe I am speaking with all Christian Charity.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are wonderful and deep and endless! To the original poster I wish you blessings and joy in your journey for a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit. Please seek counsel through your closest Charasmatic Renewal office even though you are not in an urban area you can find resources through the internet and books that have been

Thank you Monicad. You are absolutely right in what you are saying. I am a faceless person on the internet but what I am saying in true. In the end all spiritual gifts bring glory to God.

That seems to be one of the arguments. There was a story about St. Augustine that once he became a Bishop, some people as usual, came to him to ask him for blessing and healing of their physical sicknesses. He as usual, as a Bishop, would bless them and pray that they might get well. Lo and behold, they were healed. Augustine was surprised and the ones he prayed over were pleasantly edified.

There were little miracles and wonders by the gifts of the Holy Spirit who is the God of life, perhaps because Christians have least expected them because the Church is already established and we are in a rather comfort zone. And that only the holy saints can perform miracles and have the gifts of the Holy Spirit. And when we have needs, we would go to the professionals and as for God, we only ask for blessing and rightly that the doctors will be used by Him to heal us. However, it is true also, that there are situations that only God can heal and that we can directly approach Him in His throne of grace.

BTW, I’m not interested in discussing Medjugorje. The Church hasn’t made a decision, and it’s not the topic of my thread. I actually didn’t want to say the name because I thought it would distract from my question. I answered in response to a poster who wanted me to provide the info or else “I was making it up.”
My whole point in referencing the priest in the first place was to say that that I went to a Catholic healing service for the first time and was a little freaked out because it was something that I was never exposed to before. All in all, the healing mass is inconsequential to my question, as I was sharing my minuscule amount of exposure to charisms so I hoping for enlightenment through this forum.

I have heard some other gifts of the spirit are might deeds, stigmata and others. I remember hearing a saint moved a mountain.

I’ve never heard that one. Which Saint, which mountain and where did he move it to?😉
Padre Pio does come to mind when I think of stigmata–as well as other saints that I’ve read about. I wonder what constitutes a “mighty deed” and who would be an example of that one?

Matthew 17:20
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

No, there is no saint in Catholicism that has moved mountain literally.😉 You have taken Mt 17:20 too far. It is supposed to be allegory, an emphasis that faith can bring about the impossible in us.

Basically the gifts of the Holy Spirit as spoken in the Bible can be divided into two categories: the seven-fold gifts (Isaiah 11:2) and the charismatic gift (1 Cor 12). Though extraordinary talents can be gifts from the Holy Spirit, the two categories mentioned are more often referred to because of them being listed in the Bible.

The seven-fold gifts of the Holy Spirit:
And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: the spirit of wisdom, and of understanding, the spirit of** counsel**, and of fortitude, the spirit of knowledge, and of godliness. And he shall be filled with the spirit of the fear of the Lord. (Is 11:2-3)

The charismatic gifts:
They are manifestations of the Holy Spirit and thus impossible to say how many they are. However, nine such gifts were described by St Paul in 1 Cor 12. “To one the Spirit gives wisdom in discourse, to another the power to express knowledge. Through the Spirit one receives faith; by the same Spirit another is given the gift of healing and still another miraculous powers. Prophecy is given to one; to another power to distinguish one spirit from another. One receives the gift of tongues, and another that of interpreting the tongues.”

I have prayed in tongues many times in the past, not much lately, but as I sat here I began praying and praying in tongues, and had to ask myself why don’t I do it more often. Why, because I was reminded, as I prayed, that in praying this way I feel the power of God and the Holy Spirit come upon me in a way which I can only say is unique to this type of praying. It brings about a connection with the Holy Spirit, where you feel both the holiness of the Spirit and the burning fire of it within you as well. I found out recently I have a Kidney disease, thought I had Lupus for a number of years but it is something else.
I have prayed much for this as I have 6 kids, but I think I will begin praying in the Spirit more due to the efficacy of it.

When really praying in the Spirit, it really seems to multiply and increase in intensity as well - but most of all, you feel the fire of the Holy Spirit being to burn within your soul and being, and feel the power of God and I would say those gifts, such as courage, Faith etc. grow as well. Although I don’t know what I am saying specifically when praying I know the angels do and they are conduits to and from God the Father and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Also I may get mental images as well while in prayer aiding the prayer

Certain phrases seem to repeat a lot and I believe I have some Aramaic at times because when I saw the Passion of the Christ Jim Caviezel I heard terms similar to what I heard praying in the Spirit. I also believe there is a prayer language that no human race has as well, a language of the Angels.

When Jesus left the Apostles and by proxy us to be with His Father, His promise was that He was going to send the Comforter which obviously is powerful and strong and mighty, beautiful and holy beyond all measure. It was this Comforter which would allow the Apostles to preach the Gospel, preach the truth, even unto death and martyrdom. It was this same Spirit, at Pentecost, that emboldened the Apostles to speak and go out and proclaim the Gospel, after they had been huddled in fear.

Peace and may the Spirit be upon us all in a mighty way!
 
Okay Queen of Peace 23–and I’m not being a smart alec–this is a sincere question. You say you’ve done it–prayed in tongues. Many people on here write about doing it too. I’ve prayed to the Spirit many times to receive this gift or any of His gifts, for that matter, and NEVER have I spoken in tongues as a result. And before you say that I should join a charismatic group—I live on an island and there isn’t one. I’ve come to kinda doubt the genuine-nes of people who say the gift is real and not theater. Many folks–including every on TV evangelist swear they can do this. Some even say it’s the first and simplest of the Gifts of the Spirit to be given. I’d LOVE to write, apologize and say that I was wrong and now believe because it has happened to me! So, how does one acquire this gift—or “make it happen”" if you will–another words?
