Is it better to donate to charity while living or in your will?

Short answer: Both. It doesn’t have to be an either/or situation. In fact, I can’t think of any possible case in which only ‘one’ of those two possibilities could or should be chosen at the complete negation of the other.

Jesus told the rich man to give everything while he was still living though.

I think if you do it for LOVE, then you will not be able to but help giving while living. However, nothing wrong with a little risk management either. I give so that some nun, somewhere might pray for me. What is your favorite charity? My is Mother Teresa house In Harlem. motherteresa.org/layout.html

Jesus didnt talk about requirements he just said give.
Matthew 6:1-4
Matthew 25:41-45
Mark 10:21
Luke 6:38
Luke 12:33
Luke 14: 13-14
2 Corinthians 9:7
James 1:27
1 John 3:18-18

Nope, You are correct. But it did say you will have something store up
in heaven for you. This for sure is a great investment.

both but estate planning is a great way to give, a way to make sure the charity gets more of the money you donate (and the gubmint gets less), and that your gift goes on giving, not just a one-time donation. You do it right with charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts and life insurance trusts you can still make sure your kids get something (through the insurance), while you have a lifetime income from the amount donated, as it grows, and that the charity gets the whole gift when you die, not just the amount after taxes. ask your estate or tax planner for advice. The charity usually winds up with much, much more than if you just gave a one-time cash gift.

Prudence is a virtue so research your giving as you do every other use of your finances.

I believe the Pope has a book called Charity. Such a daunting question.
