I recall that Charlemagne is considered Blessed in the Church but is it true that he cannot be canonized because he was declared a saint by an antipope without the support of the Cardinals? Would there ever be the possibility of the Church ever canonizing Charlemagne sometime in the future?

He was acclaimed a saint by popular affection. His death and cult predate the modern methods of beatification and canonization by many centuries. The universal church did not confirm his a saint, but did allow local veneration and celebration. So, that is somewhat analogous to the current level of beatification.

No, that is not true.
Possible, yes.

At this point, it is not likely. I am sure it would have been completed many years ago if the Church had the desire to do so. It would certainly be atypical to take up the cause of one who lived in the 700s at this point.

But, you never know.

Thank you for the reply my friend. I’ve posted a great amount of these posts including Constantine the Great and Blessed Pope Urban II; I’m thinking about Theodosius the Great next!
