Hello everyone,
I want to say firstly that I was personally touched by everyone’s warmth to responding to my intention about staying pure before God morally and being clean and staying out of prison . It’s been really tough . I’ve just been let go of my job this morning that didn’t work out . I am not giving however … I am asking for prayer that I can meet fellow Catholic Christian from my area …that can be good role models that can help me deal with my frustrations and offer Christian support . I was confirmed into the Church while I was in the county jail awaiting sentencing so I do not have any sponsors to help me grow and mature in Christ in His holy faith . I also curious to know if anyone can direct me as to which translation is the most authortive version of Our Holy Scriptures such as the Douay Rhiems or the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition any help as to where I can get one that is inexspensive of free as to my circumstances is. Again Brothers and Sisters I want to thank you all for your Spiritual support and prayers I couldn’t do make it on the outside without ya’ll help. God bless and Ave Maria !

If you happen to live near a 2nd hand book store or a charity/thrift store you may well find a 2nd hand either Douay-Rhiems (echo the recommendation, although I think it is a version that is a lot better to read aloud than silently! try it ! for private reading the language of the Revised Standard Version is I think a lot easier) for very little (if they are anything like the shops we have in the UK!): this might provide for the immediate need until you an get your hands on a new one. Free Bibles? Some churches round here definitely have some perhaps unused or old pew Bibles which they give away so maybe try there. Hope you find 🙂

You are in my prayers

I’m sorry that your job didn’t work out, but am glad that you haven’t given up. You asked about mentors; have you joined a church in your area? Getting involved with volunteer ministries there should help you connect with Godly people. I know it worked for me. 🙂

God bless!

stand true, the Lord knows his own. praying for you my friend.

The New American Bible, Revised Edition, is the one used by the United States Council of Catholic Bishops. usccb.org/bible/ I’m a bit of a geek and I like to look at multiple translations.

Prayer for Faith

Lord, I believe:
I wish to believe in Thee.
Lord, let my faith be full and unreserved,
and let it penetrate my thought,
my way of judging Divine things and human things.
Lord, let my faith be joyful
and give peace and gladness to my spirit,
and dispose it for prayer with God
and conversation with men,
so that the inner bliss of its fortunate possession
may shine forth in sacred and secular conversation.
Lord, let my faith be humble and not presume
to be based on the experience of my thought and of my
feeling; but let it surrender to the testimony
of the Holy Spirit, and not have any better
guarantee than in docility to Tradition
and to the authority of the magisterium of the Holy Church.

Through Christ Our Lord,

Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

The wonderful thing about Bibles is you can find major translations online, for free. BibleGateway.com Has the currently approved Catholic translations (and the older Douay–Rheims version).

USCCB Approved Translations of the Sacred Scriptures for Private Use and Study by Catholics**

1983 - Present

The 1983 Code of Canon Law entrusts to the Apostolic See and the episcopal conferences the authority to approve translations of the Sacred Scriptures in the Latin Catholic Church (c. 825, §1). Prior to 1983, Scriptural translations could be approved by the Apostolic See or by a local ordinary within a diocese.

What follows is a complete list of the translations of the Sacred Scriptures that have received the approval of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops since 1983.

In addition to the translations listed below, any translation of the Sacred Scriptures that has received proper ecclesiastical approval ‒ namely, by the Apostolic See or a local ordinary prior to 1983, or by the Apostolic See or an episcopal conference following 1983 ‒ may be used by the Catholic faithful for private prayer and study.

You are doing right by frequenting CAForums!
I personally get my “daily bread” spiritually from
the forum, and have found many mentors here!!!
I encourage you to post prayers to the Prayer
Intention threads.

Our Father, who is in heaven,
Your name be held holy,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts as
we forgive our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

O most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, Fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven, who brought forth the Son of God still remaining a Virgin, assist us in this necessity. O Star of the Sea, help us, and show us that you are our Mother.
O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and earth, we humbly ask you from the depths of our heart to help us in this necessity. There are none who can withstand your power. O show us that you are our Mother.
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Sweet Mother, we place this cause in your hands. Amen

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to his assistance.

Give us this day our daily bread,

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Eternal God , in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhastible ,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us ,
that in difficult moments we might not despair
nor become despondent , but with great confidence ,
submit ourselves to Your Holy Will ,
which is love and mercy itself . Amen

Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Lord Jesus Christ,
I’m upset and disturbed,
and I pray that You will grant me
the grace of inner Peace.
As You commanded the storm winds at sea to be calm,
command the storms in my life to be calmed.
Give me the patience I need
to cope with the burdens and anxieties of my life.
Grant me the strength to deal with my problems,
and the understanding to be tolerant
and kind to others.
Teach me to seek after Your will
which alone brings peace of mind
and peace of heart.

Amen.

Dearest Lord, please help Brandon in his struggle to live a good Catholic Christian life.

and also guide him to good Catholics to support him on his way.

May God bless you, and the angels surround you.
