Chastity refers to the proper use of your sexuality. What is proper depends on your state in life – chastity for a married person is different from chastity for a single person.

The Catechism discusses chastity here. It starts with:

2337
Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person and thus the inner unity of man in his bodily and spiritual being. Sexuality, in which man’s belonging to the bodily and biological world is expressed, becomes personal and truly human when it is integrated into the relationship of one person to another, in the complete and lifelong mutual gift of a man and a woman.

The virtue of chastity therefore involves the integrity of the person and the integrality of the gift.
Chastity is like any other virtue. You do your best to live according to that virtue. If you fail in some way, then the sacrament of Reconciliation is available to give you the grace to start again.

Chaste means pure, without blemish, innocent. It also means also absence of unlawful sex.
As a Catholic the fundamental requirement is faith in Christ and His teachings. The ten Commandments and the teachings of the Catholic Church are always included If we have faith in these, it means that a life according to these teachings is a chaste life. However humans are weak and there is always a chance for fall. If we realise that the fall is wrong we will repent, we will confess, we will get absolution and then we regain spiritual normalcy In order to lead a chaste life one has to be desiring to be near to Jesus, that is one should meditate and converse with Jesus through prayer and even by talk from the bottom of heart to Jesus. Once this attitude is developed, one can overcome difficulties. Once we are determined to walk over this path, the Holy Spirit will lead us. Once we seek the righteousness , everything will be added to us. It is not an easy thing Willingness and determination will surely help

Pretty simple. Don’t have sex or sexual contact if you aren’t married. Not sure how complicated this needs to be.

Incorrect. What you described is abstinence. Someone can be abstinent and still watch pornography… Someone can be abstinent and still constantly lust after women/men they see walking down the street. Chastity is something totally different – it is a choice, a transformation of our sexual desires oriented towards God. It’s living out our sexuality in a pure way. Chastity includes modesty in the way we dress, purity in the way we talk, discretion in the movies/shows we watch, and mindfulness in the music we hear. Chastity is a lifestyle, and it’s totally worth it 🙂

                               I do not know how you conclude that a life without sex before marriage or a celibate life is a complicated one. It is not so for all. Jesus said many things are difficult for humans but possible for God. So with the help of God a life without sex is not complicated or impossible. For a sincere believer, Jesus is everything His teaching is holy What we are required is an attitude and a sincere attempt to obey Him  The attitude is lacking in the West because of the atmosphere satuarated with sex. It is momentary and there are many things of more value and intensity. That is LOVE St Paul defines Love in  his letter  ( 1 Corinthians ch.13 )

I think you have it and it is not that easy. The physical part alone is tough, but the rest is even harder. VERY tough…

            Jesus said  " You have heard that you shall not commit adultery,    but I tell you that if you look at a woman with lust you have alreddy committed adultery " When this is the teaching, a catholic who believes in Jesus knows that a lustful thought or watching porn will not be good but sinful. So abstinence means abstinence from all that make us unchaste.

The Church always refers to the Blessed Virgin Mother and her most chaste spouse, St Joseph. I think that means there was no marital intimacy between them.

This was a revolutionary concept in Jewish life. It was contrary to traditional family mores. It was counter cultural. Could it also be called a rebellion?

Jesus was also chaste.

Catholics live with the concept and see it in the lives of priests, nuns, and other religious. Catholics are accustomed to the idea of chastity and the reality of it. I don’t think it seems a strange choice to Catholics…

Yes! I think you put it perfectly. I know that I have to be careful of my associates also because some people will mock me because I am 44 and am still a virgin or will express astonishment. This is embarassing for me, so I try and just associate with christians that don’t center their conversation on sex or impurity or ungodly movies and music.

I also try and dress modestly because I think dress sends out a signal to members of the opposite sex to.
