Does anyone have ideas for WEARABLE slogans or designs that promote chastity between a husband and wife?
Better yet, have you seen one?

Not sure quite what you mean.

Do you mean something that states you are faithfull to each other? Do you mean something that said you waited till marrage?
Do you mean something that tell the youth of today to wait?

But as someone that tries not to wear statements on my clothing other than pins my general answer would be no.

I was thinking along the lines of promoting the idea that chastity doesn’t end with marriage.

The concept is hard enough to teach generally, and to sum it up in a slogan that is appropriate to wear will probably prove to be very difficult.

I ask because I would like to wear something a little different to combat all of the inappropriate clothing that says ‘bride’ and ‘groom’ while my fiance and I honeymoon. (I don’t mean to imply all of it is inappropriate. Some are simple and cute.)

So far my only idea is:
Chastity: Waiting is just the beginning. with pair of linked male/female symbols to signify marriage.

My fiance thought it would be too obscure.

I especially liked a shirt I saw that said Real Men In Control, and another that was a top ten why wait list for girls (“my lips, proclaiming the Word of God” etc…), but it was geared for young single guys and girls. I just think on the whole we’ve done a poor job of conveying that chastity is important between married people, too. The result is that young people often don’t have married role models of chastity, and the cycle begins.

You mean to tell me that you cannot tell I am living a chaste life simply by looking at the holy glow that surrounds me whenever I leave the house???

(oh, and I’m not married…widow…and I’m kidding…kinda…😛 )

Yes, living it comes first, absolutely, and often one CAN tell when a couple or indivual is particularly pure/modest/chaste/etc.

I guess I just want to make people go HMM so they think about how they behave toward their spouse and other people of the opposite sex even after they’re married.

How about:

Chastity: Our waiting for marrage was just the beginning

Using entwined wedding rings.

forgive my ignorance - I don’t get this post, though.

Here is the defininition of chastity:
Pronunciation: 'chas-t&-tE
Function: noun
1 : the quality or state of being chaste : as a : abstention from unlawful sexual intercourse b : abstention from all sexual intercourse c : purity in conduct and intention d : restraint and simplicity in design or expression
2 : personal integrity

So do you mean it as personal integrity or do you mean it in the first meaning? Why would you abstain from sex once you are married? Isn’t that unlawful under Catholic rules anyway? I’m confused.

Also, I know you said they aren’t all bad, but what is wrong with the “bride and groom” shirts people wear?

Jaded27 - Chastity in Marriage doesn’t mean you are celibate, but it does mean that you refuse the use of contraception or immoral sexual practices within the marriage bond.

Waiting to have relations until married IS just the beginning. and I agree with OP that we don’t do a good enough job of emphasizing that in this country…especially Catholics (considering I have read articles that report 65-70% of American Catholics use contraception of some sort).

It’s a great idea, but alas, I’m not creative enough to come up with anything better than what has already been posted…the whole, “Waiting was just the beginning” or something like that.

Frankly, while I know your intent is a good one, I find this to be a topic that is utterly inappropriate for graphic wear. I am sick to death of people wearing their sexual proclivities–of whatever stripe–on their sleeve, literally. We are talking about the most intimate, holy and sacramentally blessed physical union of husband and wife. You are reducing it–albeit unintentionally–to a common political slogan.

This topic can NOT properly be discussed via billboard–whether in the traditional sense or plastered across your chest. If someone wants to make genuine inquiry or engage in a discreet discussion–that is one thing. Public conduct deserves and requires public discourse and debate. But private, intimate matters are cheapened when aired so blithely in public. I sincerely believe we debase our private intimacy and sexuality by lumping it with other topics that belong in the public square.

Maybe I’m confused but then you are using the word chastity in an inappropriate and confusing way. Not one that the public can identify easily with.

Isn’t the very meaning and essence of marriage all that you have described - just not using the word chastity?

I think that while you probably have good intentions, you should consider how much of a turn off wearing a slogan about your married sex life will be to others. Most people do not want to know what is going on behind closed doors, married or not. We can do our best to teach our children and help those that inquire about specific practicies and the subsequent morality of certain choices, but we are not going to succeed in “educating” the general public by wearing a t-shirt.

The phrase, “Is nothing sacred?!!” comes to mind when I think about advertising my marital sex life.

Wedding rings???

I am not a big fan of the slogan tee shirt. I would feel uncomfortable unless I as wearing it at some kind of rally or campaign, benefit, etc.

My wedding rings are all I need. 🙂

Wedding rings???
:rotfl:

seriously, for those who take their vows seriously and who have good, solid, Christ-centered marriages, the rings should be enough. I think the intention of the OP is a good one, but like other people here we may have an overwhelming feeling that we should “preach the Gospel - and if necessary, use words”.

It seems a little haughty and arrogant (and tacky) to go around wearing a t-shirt professing your virtues.

The public may not readily identify with this use of the word “chastity” but the public is wrong. Chastity in marriage includes, among other things, enjoying one’s conjugal privileges frequently and with relish! 😃

You know what, this made me smile, but this is one of the first things I noticed about one of my dearest Catholic friends. I literally noticed a “glow” and could tell she was full of the Holy Spirit right away. She is a very devout Catholic! She isn’t perfect, nobody is, but she went to daily Mass, had a spiritual advisor, had an Adoration hour, wore the scapular, prayed teh rosary daily. I am telling you, as I told her… there were many times that I looked at her and noticed that she *glowed. *

I have an “I love catholic girls” tee shirt, and I wear it when I take my three daughters out sometimes, and a bumpersticker that says “U can’t B both catholic and pro-choice”

I think a chasity Tee shirt would confuse most people…they would even think your unmarried…
