Chastity is the solution to:
abortifacients and the problems that follow
contraception and the problems that follow
abortion…
unwed teen pregnancy…
unwed pregnancy…
prostitution…
lust…
rape…
pornography…
date rape…
statutory rape…
pedophiles…
self abuse…
and so forth…

It is also the solution to problems that follow from the above mentioned.

Abortion and prostitution do not solve problems but create more problems. They are solution problems.

It’s that people have an inordinate sexual desire that they cannot achieve chastity. Now, if everybody took the anti-depressant Paxil, everything would be fine.

Do they market Paxil for that?

How safe is Paxil?

Does it cause addiction?

Never heard of it, but I guess you can tell that.

I wonder what the Church’s position on using it for other things than depression?

THANKS

Some nice person also pointed out that chastity is a proactive solution to STDs.

Paxil is primarily used for depression and and anxiety, but it can also be used for sex offenders. I use it for my libido, which has all but disappeared. No, it does not cause addiction. Pharmaceutical companies really need to produce a drug specifically for lowering the libido.

There are so many things solved by chastity, whether a person is Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, agnostic or even atheistic.

Chastity is proactive and holistic problem solving for individuals, families, towns, cities and civilizations.

Also, abortion does not solve a problem but abolishes a life. It also causes great spiritual, psychological and physical problems for the mother and father and their entire family. Abortion is not a solution but a problems causer.

Prostitution does not solve a problem. It causes great spiritual problems to all the people involved.

Pornography cause problems for the model, those that make the pornography and the individuals that use it.

We could go on and on. It is self-evident

Same old boring story. Chastity = good, sex = evil. Soul = divine, body = devilish. Albigenses die soooo hard.
Castration also used to “solve” problems. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to castrate ourselves? Peace, quiet, zero problems! If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out!
But wait, there was another commandment, slightly different…
  • Go forth and multiply!
  • Sorry, dude, we’re on Paxil!

Is rape good?

Is abortion good?

Is prostitution good?

If so, how?

How is chastity bad or evil?

How do you suggest stopping rape?

I said “Chastity = good, sex = evil” not to approve it, but to ridicule this old cliché. Rape isn’t an effect of abusing one’s own reproductive faculty, but an effect of abusing one’s own mind. You can’t stop rape from happening by forbidding sex, hating marriage, castrating people, idealizing chastity, but by educating free people to respect themselves and other people. Respect is expressed EITHER by being chaste OR by loving and marrying someone. Chastity is only a free individual option, not something that should be imposed on other people. And seeking drugs to escape one’s natural urges is desperation, not chastity.

Actually, chastity is not the same as celibacy. Celibacy means not having children. Chastity is the place where morality meets sex. It does not mean not marrying and having children.

Yes, that’s why I said above “seeking drugs to escape one’s natural urges is desperation, not chastity”. A man can become a rapist even if he is married, but on the other hand, nobody needs to practice chastity in order to avoid being a rapist. Marriage and chastity are compatible as long as both partners have the same understanding of it and both agree to it; being a rapist or using drugs to suppress the natural functions of the body is compatible neither with a harmonious marriage, nor with the virtue of chastity.

I am not sure what you are saying, sorry.

Morally speaking, sex is good.

Chastity is beautiful sexual control.

Chastity is proactive solution to many problems.

Sorry, again, I am not clear as to what you are saying, sorry.

Nothing complicated, after all I guess we’re on the same page. Chastity may mean moderation and decency when one is married, but may mean complete abstinence as well. Both can be freely achieved without any drugs, unless a person really has a medical disorder that gives rise to hypersexuality, which is in fact quite rare. Now when one says “if everybody took the anti-depressant Paxil, everything would be fine” (post #2), it sounds like all evils on earth have an easy solution - drug induced abstinence, as if all people were sick or potential rapists - which is hilarious, hence my first post (sorry if it sounded rude). To use an antidepressant on healthy people is to knowingly mess with their health, which is a violation of the 5th Commandment.

easier said than done.

vames Thanks!

Dakota Roberts Yes! And I am aware of the “Belling of the Cat.” THANKS!

As far as I am able to discern, and I could be incorrect or incomplete in my comprehension, our Catholic faith teaches that chastity is a gift just as faith, hope, and love.

I was briefly on Paxil for what was misdiagnosed as an anxiety disorder while I was in high school. I can testify that it utterly obliterated my sex drive almost instantly, and picked up as normal as soon as I stopped taking it. Bizarre.

No one says sex is evil, and chastity is not the same thing as no sex. Nor does anyone think the body is “devilish.”

Concupiscence, i.e., the disordering of natural desires as a result of original sin, certainly is an evil. I dunno if one is permitted to medicate in order to deal with that or not, but one hardly need to embrace gnostic heresy in order to do so.

Go forth and multiply is indeed a good commandment. Besides being good for couples, it helps solve economic problems and ensures the continuance of civilization.

And yet, not only has chastity fallen on hard times, so has marriage.

Marriage also solves many problems. And I’m so tired of hearing such phrases as “we’ve been together for 8 years and engaged for 2 years.” Just get married, for pete’s sake!

Saying that “chastity is the solution to many problems” is like saying “not hurting anyone is the solution to violence” or “not drinking is the solution to alcohol problems.”

Yes, if everyone was chaste a lot of problems would be solved. Is that even close to being realistic? Of course not.

There is really not a big enough market for people that want their libido lowered.
