So I’m in this English class where we only read books and take 5 question quizzes every week and I don’t know if cheating ( I read sparknotes instead of reading the actual text) on those quizzes are a mortal sin because I mean I not stealing from my education because I won’t need fictional information later on.

Are you certifying to the teacher that you read the material rather than notes? If so, that is lying.

Why aren’t you reading the actual texts?
If you have trouble reading due to a learning impairment, the teacher should know so that accommodations can be made.

Reading Sparknotes isn’t cheating. It may or may not negatively impact your grade, but it isn’t cheating.

The point of a test is to see if you have knowledge of the subject matter. How you got that knowledge doesn’t really matter (Assuming it wasn’t during the test!).

If you are reading the summary I’d the book on your own and not taking from other students notes, I don’t think it is a sin. I’d read index, First three chapters of Book and last chapter. If something felt missing, I’d review index and ouch a chapter that would fill in n blank. It was before snark notes. Snark notes gives you permission to use them. OK. What you are cheating, is yourself. The whole book can be enjoyable. Take you away to a different time. Except don’t read the book,”THE SPOT.”
