Today I was taking a quiz and I wasn’t sure of a few of the answers so I secretly took out my book and looked them up. I was tempted to do so for a few minutes but I finally gave in. This has been eating away at my mind all day because I don’t know if I have committed a mortal sin or not. The thing is at the time I cheated on the quiz I was not sure if cheating was a grave matter or if it depended on the gravity of the cheating(as in if it would affect me greatly or not). Please help I am a bit scrupulous and am not sure!
 
Instead of trying to figure out if it is mortal or not, why not simply confess it? Confession is just as effective for venial sins. If in doubt, confess it out! 🙂

I’m not sure what you mean by “a bit scrupulous” but this is something to bring to the attention of your Confessor.

You haven’t said anything about the quiz. Is this a quiz taken in class at school or what?
 
I have a new situation. So today we were taking an open book quiz, and someone needed a charger for their computer. The bonus question for the quiz was “Name a fruit for vegetable that can conduct electricity well” (we are learning about voltage and ohms and stuff like that) so the teacher asks if anyone had a charger on them and without thinking I blurted out, “you could make one out of a potato.” That is one of the answers to the bonus. I don’t know if I am being scrupulous or not, but would be that be a grave matter/mortal sin?

I don’t know if this would help access the situation but only one person heard me say it, the person next to me

What you don’t know , you don’t know. Don’t worry about it. Be concerned with what you do know. You know that cheating is wrong.

Cheating is wrong and must be confessed.
