Join us this Sunday, May 17, as we jump into the fray at the commencement ceremony at Notre Dame University in Indiana! As you may have heard on the news, there is a big controversy at Notre Dame around abortion because Obama is going to speak at the commencement. Even tho Obama’s stand on abortion is provisional and restricted, vicious Christian fundamentalist groups from around the country are trying to use this as an opportunity to whip up their patriarchial anti-abortion and anti-women agenda.
This cannot go unopposed! Friends of Revolution newspaper, including Sunsara Taylor, will be out there with a huge banner, reading:
ABORTION ON DEMAND WITHOUT APOLOGY!
We aim to cut through the reactionary terms that will be out there. Women cannot be liberated if they are forced to choose between those who are intent on outlawing abortion outright and keeping women enslaved to forced motherhood and patriarchy, and those who are apologizing for abortion and ceding the moral high-ground. These are not the terms that we can accept.
We need to be clear: we oppose the reactionary Christian Fascist attack on women. At the same time, the position of Obama and the Democrats, in finding common ground with these fascists, has only opened the way to more attacks on and the eroding away of the right to abortion. In contrast, we stand for the liberation of women and the emancipation of humanity!
Our banner, “Abortion on Demand, Without Apology,” gets to the heart of the matter. We will be distributing the current issue of Revolution, The Torture Memos … and the Need for Justice, and a special issue of Revolution entitled: Declaration: For Women’s Liberation and the Emancipation of All Humanity.
Join us! Get your friends together and get in a car and meet us at Notre Dame. Or to hook up with us, call us at (216) 533-6840 and meet up with us at the Triskett RTA Park-and-ride, at 140th and Triskett Rd, off I-90.
