Once, we got periodic updates on a close football game throughout Mass. Perhaps it was Ok, since it was the Saints who were playing? I thought it was a little over the top…
I

I tried to reconcile with such behavior with a pastor for 14 years. I said to myself: he will go, and it will be better. When he finally left and a new pastor came, for about a half year he really was better; but after that it turned over that the liturgical committe is the boss and not the pastor, the masses get annoying, in our case full with the honoring of the human success instead of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This blackberry checking by any means is grave disobedience against the rules.

My advice is: do not torment yourself. Find a nearby church where God is the center, and you can feel yourself at home

The closest Catholic Church other than the one I go to is 40 miles away via a drive the renowned Canyon. However it is irrelevant as I believe I finally made peace with myself concerning my new pastor.

Yesterday I went to a funeral that he presided over. He was his usual ad-libbing self carefully explain each part of the mass, after commenting that there were a lot of non-Catholics there, and gave a long rambling sermon that ended with him taking his guitar and singing a song from the movie “Bountiful”. It was the most moving funeral Mass I have ever attended. By the end of the song the family was tearfully joining in the refrain. At the end of the Mass, an hour and a half later, I was wishing it would go on. I have learned a lot humility in the last couple days.

The Latin Mass prevents priests from checking their emails on their BB?
During a Solemn High Mass or Missa Cantata there is sufficient “down time” during the Gregorian Chants for the celebrant to check his e-mail. I can’t imagine any FSSP priest ever doing that but who knows, there might be one out there somewhere who doesn’t understand why we’re there. Seems like we’ve forgotten that we are there as witnesses to Jesus’ sacrifice, it’s not our Mass to play with.

I have thought this myself. I keep asking myself why all these little things are upsetting me and came to the conclusion, like you did, that Satan was trying to turn me away from daily mass. I get to hold our Lord and Savior in my hand every morning and follow his admonition to eat his body and that is what I need to concentrate on.
It might also be that the reason all these little things are upsetting you is because the Holy Spirit is urging you to take action. Be vigilant an inquire of the priest what he was doing. At my parish one of the first things they do before mass starts is ask for everyone to silence their cell phones so as not to have any disruption during the service. His timing was reprehensible.

Stop making excuses for bad behavior and don’'t take such a cavalier attitude as some Catholics on CAF do regarding alibiing, changing the words of the Eucharistic Prayer’s and other inconsistencies during the mass. We are entitled to a correctly celbrated mass from beginning to the end according to church documents and the rubic’s.

Was it a Blackberry or an i-phone? The i-phone has apps for Catholics: Missal, hymns, Bible, Rosary, Breviary, etc.

That’s beautiful.

Not sure. Yesterday in his sermon he read a beautiful act of contrition from it that he had found online.

Let’s hope he was checking to make sure it was turned off. There is a priest that comes frequently to say weekday Mass at my parish and his goes off all the time. Seriously. And the ring tone is Chava Nagila (if I spell that correctly.)
