Cheektowaga priest removed from ministry after I-Team report
Bishop knew about Nowak allegations months agoPosted: 1:22 PM, Aug 07, 2019
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — One day after a 7 Eyewitness News I-Team report about Bishop Richard J. Malone’s alleged cover-up of allegations against a Cheektowaga pastor, the Diocese of Buffalo has removed the priest from ministry.
The Rev. Jeffrey L. Nowak, pastor of Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Cheektowaga, is facing allegations of inappropriate contact with children, harassment of a seminarian and perhaps the greatest Catholic sin of all: violating the seal of confession.
Despite this, Bishop Malone allowed Nowak to remain in ministry until Tuesday’s I-Team report was published. . . .
As stated above, this stuff has been known by the Chancery office for a long time.
This from back in May . . .
ALLEGED SEXUAL PREDATOR PRIEST IDENTIFIED IN NY SEMINARY
NEWS: US NEWS
BUFFALO, N.Y. (ChurchMilitant.com) - Another bombshell has dropped in the ongoing scandal investigation of the diocese of Buffalo, New York.
In the wake of the suspension of three priests for alcohol-fueled inappropriate behavior involving Christ the King seminarians, WKBW is reporting Rev. Jeffery L. Nowak — a pastor at the diocese’s Our Lady Help of Christians in Cheektowaga, New York — is the subject of an investigation for alleged sexual misconduct.
The television station received an email from Buffalo diocese Communications Director Kathy Spangler, in which she wrote: “A preliminary inquiry has been initiated concerning allegations of inappropriate behavior/unwanted contact.”
Nowak’s name is redacted in a confidential seminary document obtained by WKBW and subsequently released online. [ Caution: graphic details and obscene language]
The Christ the King document provides accounts of the gathering as related by seminarian whistleblowers. WKBW revealed Nowak’s identity as a priest who made unwanted sexual advances toward other priests . . . .
When are our Catholic seminarians and priests going to be protected from these predators who have infiltrated the ranks of the priesthood and episcopate?
Dear God. Please deliver us from these men with such objectively disordered “appetites” who according to Church teaching, should never be ordained in the first place.
