Jack Chick is not out to harm any Catholics.
Jack Chick is one of the most hateful, offensive men that I’ve ever seen. His anti-Catholic tracts are nothing but vitriol and garbage, and the man needs a serious wake-up call. He’s bigoted, mean-spirited, cowardly and ignorant in the extreme. He is as far from Christian as any person ever could be.

I remember when my family came out of Christmas Mass once to discover that someone had left anti-Catholic Chick tracts in all of the car windshields in the parking lot. I can’t help but wonder: If these tracts were meant to reach out to Catholics in the spirit of brotherly love and concern, why doesn’t anyone ever show their face when they present them?

Jack Chick is not out to harm any Catholics. I don’t think that’s a fair comparison and their rhetoric is not the same either. In his mind, he wants Catholics to become born-again Christians. The same way some Catholics want him to become a Christian. He sincerely loves Catholic people and that’s why he writes those tracts. Yes, he needs prayer. He’s a harmless, old man and most people don’t believe his tracts anyway. I wouldn’t be here if I believed everything he said about Catholicism.

If I caught someone leaving that garbage on my car, there would be, in all seriousness, a physical confrontation.

I don’t know about physical confrontations, but I’d definitely tear up the tract in front of them.

I think people who hand out anti-Catholic Chick tracts are well-intentioned but poorly-informed. I think a physical altercation would be extremely counter-productive. Instead, I’d take the opportunity to actually talk to the people passing the stuff out and get to know them. If the people are so easily-swayed by a comic book tract on such serious issues, you know they are not scholars, so you don’t have to be a theologian to engage them in simple matters of faith. You can point them to factual sources, challenge them to do some simple internet searching, and most importantly you can give them a positive example of Catholicism that can shatter their stereotype of Catholics. Simply sharing your love for Christ will shake these people who think we are all mind-numbed robots of the Pope who know only ritual and emptiness.

Remember_Me: Welcome to CAF. I think some of the old warriors here have an understandable knee-jerk reaction to Chick. He is everywhere, but yet he is not willing to actually debate in public, so it is an adversary that takes cheap shots from many angles yet won’t stand up to scrutiny in honest debate. It gets exasperating trying to talk about him when his ideas are just plain bizarre.

I think the fact that it would be on my car, personal space, is what ticks people off. It’s the equivilant of littering.
Years ago when I was a fundy a local preacher and I were putting up notices in local businesses for a revival. I remember asking him to go inside and ask for permission before he put them up.
Well, he didn’t, and a few business owners were understandably upset.
His answer? The “message” was more important than thier rules.
If I see someone picking up my windsheild wiper to put something underneath it, I couldn’t care if it was a local pizza shop advertising, I would ask them not to do that. If they want to hand it to me, that’s one thing. I have the option of refusing. I have no option when they do it without permission.
Unless its a meter maid. 😃

I think people are offended by Chick tracts because they are meant to offend. You can disbelieve in the real presence without calling the Eucharist the “death cookie”, for example.

That is exactly the tract that was placed on all of our cars during Christmas Eve Mass.

Wow! I know some people hate Catholicism but this takes the cake.

The Holocaust and Hitler, 100% Catholic 🤷
Chick wrote anything to make a buck off anti
Catholicism; despite his tracts the Church of Christ is alive and well and will be long after Chick.

Mary.

Where someone like Hitler is concerned, there is no confusion. He excommunicated himself by his actions and no one I can think of would ever believe that Hiter was a faithful Catholic adhering to the teachings of the Church. Formal excommunication is not neccessary unless there is some heretical idea of belief that is in question. Hitler never claimed to be doing the work of the Catholic Church, he never claimed to be a good Catholic and told by the Virgn Mary to kill all the Jews…or something like that. He was raised Catholic but he never really was Catholic, nor did he try to draw his Catholic upbringing into any of his actions.

This was my understanding as well if I recall from Catholic school; he excommunicated himself by his actions is what I was taught.

Is lifting up a windshield wiper worth giving someone a knuckle sandwich or having some sort of altercation? 😉

Yes, I support most of his tracts. Most of his tracts are not about Catholicism. I’m 31 years old and I’ve read Chick tracts/books since I was a child. Unfortunately, the only information I knew about the Catholic Church was EXTREMELY NEGATIVE and it did not just come from Jack Chick. With that in mind, I joined this site because I wanted to know what Catholics really believe. I mean no harm.
Where did most of the extremely negative information come from if not just Jack Chick?
Just curious.
Mary.

Many of the tracts will have footnotes, but they are frequently circular references to other Chick works (buy the book!).

I’d give it back and laugh and say 'I can’t believe anyone believes this nonsense"

Mary.

don’t believe a word of anything this man produces. It is the stuff of evil. I say the truth. And a insult to all of us.

Various books, websites, movies, & preachers. Not all of this information was linked to Chick.
