Well, for years I read anti-Catholic information(again, not just from Chick) and now I want to read, or learn, something positive about Catholicism. I can’t explain why I have an interest in this. Guess I’m just a curious person.

Were Edmond Paris, Charles Chiniquy and Adolf Hitler baptized Catholics? What made them turn against the Church into which they were brought up?

You could say the same about Lenin/Stalin brought up in the Russian Orthodox Church what made them become mass murderers, people forget Satan is alive and well in the world. You could also say the same about the British Monarchy who are head of the Church of England (Anglican) wherever they went the killed and plundered unless you became an Anglican, the British Empire stretched far and wide.

Stalin, or Joseph Djugashvili, was the son of an alcoholic, “Crazy Bezo,” who regularly abused him. Also, his city of Gori, was the site of many drunken brawls and gang violence.

I think you greatly underestimate Chick’s influence among young, impressionable people who are fed anti-Catholic lies at their churches. I grew up in the Bible Belt. My Sunday school teachers fed me anti-Catholic propaganda. That sort of hatred is very harmful. And Jack Chick feeds that hatred. He and his followers may not have interrupted a Mass, but he has corrupted many minds.

Despite this upbringing, I ended up in the Catholic Church.

Jack Chick teaches that the Catholic Church hierarchy is evil but that the Bible is true. But the “gay” lobby teaches moral relativism and that the Catholic Church hierarchy and the Bible are evil. They even went so far as to create a “gay” bible that omits all the parts in the Bible that criticize homosexuality. They also have much more hatred for the Catholic Church than followers of Jack Chick. We know this because the “gay” activists even go so far as to stage screaming protests which disrupt a Mass, and they stage naked protests at the Vatican with obscenities and blasphemies written on their naked bodies. A follower of Jack Chick has never done anything like that. And the “gay” lobby’s manipulation of public opinion through media propaganda and the public education system combined with legal coercion has been far more damaging to the Catholic Church’s PR than Chick tracts. So, it’s easier for one who was brought up on fundamentalism and Chick tracts to convert to Catholicism because at least they have the basic belief in objective truth, that God is good, and the bible is the word of God. They only need to change their opinion about the Catholic Church.

Believe it or not, there is stuff worse than Chick. Years ago a church member was cleaning out his bookshelves and gave me material, some of them comic books, from Peter Ruckman, nortorious fundy even the wide-eyeds stayed away from. His stuff was clearly the work of someone who needed help desparately.
The books went into the trash.

Jack Chick’s writing should be compared to Anti-Semitic propaganda. He vilifies an entire group of people by laying all the horrors and woes that have occurred in the last 2000 years at the feat of the Catholic Church which is in league with the anti Christ in an international conspiracy of supernatural proportions.

Let’s turn it around another way.

I get baptized and I am an automatic saint.

People can be baptized and never believe. The Church opposed Hitler as soon as his true beliefs came out; he was simply using the Church at the beginning. The vast majority of Catholics in those geographical regions voted against Hitler, as did Pope Benedict’s family.

Rather, our growth in faith is a life long journey, and authentic response to baptism declares we are pilgrims on this earth passing through until we are united with the Lord in heaven.

When I was going thru RCIA and doing some “research” online about the faith, I came across Chick’s materials. I read a couple of his tracts and actually became nauseous reading them …seriously sick to my stomach. Spreading that kind of hate, bigotry and lies should be obvious to anyone with a brain and a pulse that this man is driven by evil, pure and simple.

I understand he’s rarely ever seen in public. Wonder why!?? Seems like he might be a passive-aggressive wimp that can’t stand up for himself in public and couldn’t handle the scrutiny. So he simply cranks out this propaganda to blind people who believe anything he says and stays in his little shell. Not much of a man if you ask me! I’d have at least a little tiny bit of respect for someone who actually stands up for his beliefs and defends them.

Just more of the same though …the only socially and legally acceptable prejudice and bigotry in America is Anti-Catholicism. I pray for him and all those who believe his evil and our country!

I think you misread them. I didn’t take either of their posts as attacks on EO or assertions that his EO background made Stalin what he is. On the contrary, I took their posts as stating that the assertion that Catholicism made Hitler is as absurd as saying EO made Stalin who he was.

Jack Chick is not out to harm any Catholics. I don’t think that’s a fair comparison and their rhetoric is not the same either. In his mind, he wants Catholics to become born-again Christians. The same way some Catholics want him to become a Christian. He sincerely loves Catholic people and that’s why he writes those tracts. Yes, he needs prayer. He’s a harmless, old man and most people don’t believe his tracts anyway. I wouldn’t be here if I believed everything he said about Catholicism.
