Your time could be so much more effective spent in holy reading and praying.
Put aside these tracts, and spend your time in a worthy endeavor.
the Church has a wealth of great offerings on virtually all topics of the faith.
Go there.
Apologetics is a worthy endeavor. You might shy away from it but others shouldn’t be dissuaded from serving in that capacity. Nothing wrong in knowing what you will be encountering.

Op talked about reading them for the laughs. It’s one thing to study something in order to answer it when encountered in the name of apologics, it’s another to read something that is full of lies for the laughs or even enjoyment. That is what she is answering to.

yup. Thanks.

Hi, everyone!!

I can understand how Catholics feel about these tracts. Although I do feel most of Jack Chicks theology in the tracts is correct, I think he has the Catholics pegged dead wrong!!

Catholics are indeed Christian. Catholics don’t worship Mary, saints, relics or the pope. When Jack Chick speaks of Catholicism, he really needs to do more research on what a Catholic actually believes and what the Catholic Church actually teaches!!

That is why I feel forums like this are a really good thing!! A forum like this can indeed clear up any misconceptions a protestant has (or anybody else) about the Catholic faith.

Take Care, guys and God Bless!!

Thank-you for your kind words and thoughts. For you as a Lutheran, I am not sure how you would find the “theoogy” of these tracks ok. Jack Chick is a fundamentalist and as a fundamentalist, he would have little in common with you and your Lutheran faith. He is a far cry from that and most of these tracks bash the Catholic Church. With what you have expressed here, I’m not sure how this all agrees with your stated faith.

Hi, Rowbar!!

Thank you for your comments!! You make some good points on Jack Chick. Unfortunately, he does bash Catholics and most others who are not fundamentalist. His theology lines up with Lutheran theology when he speaks of Jesus Christ as God in human flesh, Jesus as the final judge of humanity, criteria on what we will be judged on, Jesus as the creator of the world, etc.

Where he gets his theology wrong (as far as Lutheranism is concerned) is when he attacks the Eucharist, Mary, Saints and anyone else that is not like him!!

That is a big reason the fundamentalist theology and Churches are a big turn off for me. I have noticed much of what they preach is not scripturally sound doctrine.

You are right though, when you say Jack Chick is a far cry from Catholic or Lutheran!! He and I could have a good debate on doctrine!!

Take Care, Rowbar and catch you on the forums!! 🙂

I am not sure what I am doing wrong here, since I read the Bible quite often (daily), pray the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy (daily) and am an auxillary member (formerly active) of the Legion of Mary, trust me, it is m JOB to know what other people believe or I have NO WAY of defending what I do. If there are people who believe this rubbish, then there MUST be people that refute, I am sorry friend, but I must defend the Lord and his Church.
I am not saying that you can’t defend the Lord and His Church. But the number of people who are falling for the stuff Jack Chick throws out there is minimal. Not to disregard them, but know your faith enough that if one of these people crosses your path, then you have ample time to at least try to defend your faith. I’ve read his tracts, and find them almost funny. “Death Cookie”? Give me a break! He is/was taking pot shots at the Church. The main reason people try to take pot shots at the Catholic Church is because it’s big enough to hit. Kind of like shooting at the broad side of a huge barn.

In the small community where we lived for a time, it was a common practice to see copies of these books left in local businesses. I would try to replace these with Catholic literature. At least that way if someone wanted to learn about salvation, the Church, or how to live a Christian life they got the real story.

A long time ago, I enjoyed Chick’s booklets…but that was when they only had the more “innocent” (!) stuff like* Somebody Loves Me* and **This Was Your Life! ** . But when in later years Chick began bashing the Catholics big time–not only in his tracts, but in his **Crusaders **comic series (notably, the infamous Alberto ), I was appalled. For the record, I wasn’t Catholic yet (have now been a convert since April 3, 1993, Hallelujah!!! :extrahappy: ) and didn’t know an awful lot about the Faith; but I understood enough to know how wrong the man was. His books are now gone with the wind from my presence, and the local Christian bookstore only carries the less innocuous titles mentioned up above.

From what I’ve read of Chick in past articles, even certain non-Catholics can’t stand him.
