I saw it this weekend and was particularly moved by it. The culture of lies that was in place in the Soviet union was just barbaric and Orwellian. The investigator was being hounded for simply asserting what everyone knew to be true, that there still were murders in the Soviet Union, contrary to Stalin when he said there were ‘no murders in Paradise’.
But everyone had to pretend that Stalin was correct, and the elaborate ‘talking around a subject’ that had to go on then reminds me of what we have going on in the West in the seed form of anti-hate speech laws and other thought crimes.
The movie had a small release of only 510 theaters and pulled in over $2 million, averaging what $4k per theater? Sounds like it wont last very long in the theater at all.
