Do we remember, that once upon a time, that we all were children?

Sometimes, I wax nostolgic, about childhood lost. Then my inner poet emerges.

***Three houses on Memory Lane,
Gone, not forgotten,
Yet still they remain,
Everything’s changed,
But still much the same,
At the three houses on Memory Lane.

So many children,
Playing their games,
Laughing and smiling,
I remember their names,
They all lived in houses,
On Memory Lane.***

most of the dreams i remember are set in the house in which i grew up. the house my father built.

it’s funny how when i was a kid, i didn’t know the name of my street might effectively, eventually be called “memory lane.” when i was a kid, my street was my world.

when i’ve gone back as an adult, i’m astonished at how little everything is. the huge pine tree under which bows we made a fort seemed like a small fortress. almost 40 years later, the tree is still standing. i guess it must have grown some, but it doesn’t look nearly as vast as it did back then.

i appreciate the theme of your poem. thanks.

My preference is to believe that childhood is never lost. Rather it is the ground floor of the life we build until Our Lord calls us home.
