My daughter will be starting CCD next year in order to receive her sacraments, then her younger sister the year after that. Does anyone know if it it matters that both my girls were baptized in an Episcopal church. My husband and I are now raising them Catholic (we are both practicing Catholics as well). Thank you! Jeanine

The Catholic Church recognizes baptism from other Christian churches. It’s only other Christian churches that have you re-baptized as you change churches. Your children only need to be welcomed into the Catholic church with First Communion, and possibly a profession of faith. (I know they do this with adults). You as their parents have already professed the faith for them and are already raising them as Catholics. Good for you and them! God bless.

Catholic or non-Catholic, somewhere along the line they are going to want a Baptismal Certificate. These are sometimes difficult to obtain from non-Catholic Churches - They don’t have them. If that is the case you may have to swear affidavits to attest to their Baptism. Check with your local DRE for how they handle it in your parish.

Also they will probably need Baptismal certificates for marriage later on so get a record started now.

Some non-catholic church baptisms are considered valid others are not. If your daughter was baptised in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost/Spirit, most of these baptisms are valid.

Joe hit upon a good point as to baptism certificate. I have no idea if they are or are not given in a non-catholic church. If you do not have a certificate, the priest may also give your daughter a “conditional baptism”. My husband who converted from the Anglican church to The Catholic Church was given a conditional baptism due to not having a certificate handy.
