Hello,
Code:
How do I explain to a protestant friend (use to be Catholic) that confession is good for children?

He hated going when he was younger b/c he says that he was forced too.

  Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

What are the benefits of you going to confession? If you can’t explain how confession is beneficial to you, then you can’t explain how it would benefit a child. By the same token, the benefits to a child are identical to the benefits to you.

Of course, if a child is forced to go when he’s not even sorry for his sins is sort of like spitting in the wind, unless you get the priest to explain to him why this is so important to the salvation of his soul.

There has been a very strange happening in the Catholic church.Befor Vatican II it was Catholic teaching that Childrn of the age of seven had reached the age where they could, reason.Know right from wrong, know what sin is.
Along comes Vatican 2 and all of a suddren all children at 7 are incapable of Reasoning. Or reading a Catechism that didn’t resemble a coloring book. Some might Call it instant stupidity.
So we get Communion befor Confession, which has turned out to be a total mistake and is now forbidden !There were places that were abale to maintain some sanity. That for lack of a choice kept using the Old Baltimore Catechism, rather than the coloring books that had dissplaced it in many places.( remarkabely necessity, kept the Baltimore Catechism in print )

St. Joseph Catechism is good and so is the Faith and Life series which has actual quotes from the Catechism. Nice bright pictures but meat and potatoes!
