Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As I began to listen to the Mass readings for today, the first reading form the First Letter of John really struck me as so appropriate for this last day of the year. I also thought of how Mary our Mother has been sent by God more in our times than previously with warnings and even weeping in some apparitions. Notably the approved apparitions in Kibeho, Africa and in La Salette, France to young persons who saw her in tears, we hear our Mother pleading with her children; effectively repeating her words at Cana, “Do whatever He tells you.” (John 2:5) Apparitions do not “add” to scripture, but they can help us live the Gospel better.
In Kibeho:
John’s First Letter to the Church speaks of the “last hour” which refers to the time after Jesus lived, died, resurrected and ascended into heaven. Jesus completed the Revelation of God, yet the Church is continuing to be taught the Truth He revealed by the Holy Spirit given to the Church to bring us into the complete Truth of Jesus until He comes again in glory. We also each have our own personal “last hour” when God will come for us. Today is the last day of 2015, and a good one to reflect back on what we have done and have not done in love for God and others, especially through Mary and with Mary. Each day is a new day and God’s Mercies are new in it. God willing, may 2016 be a year of greater spiritual growth!

In my thread on Mary’s sorrow in the midst of joy, I gave a link to an excellent article on the EWTN website about apparitions; see HERE. While Catholics are under no obligation to believe in private revelations, when the Church does approve an apparition she is acknowledging there is a supernatural event in which we may learn how to live the Gospel better in our own time. On this last day of the year, it seemed good to me to consider again the tears of Our Blessed Mother and to heed what she has said to these young people. Our Lady’s messages given to the three children of Fatima and the messages to the three school girls in Kibeho and two children in La Salette have gone unheeded by many – is it any wonder we find the world further from God these days?
