Hello,
We have a new pastor and I am questioning some of the things he does. Yesterday at the school mass, he had a 7th grade girl read the Gospel. I was under the impression that no one but an ordained minister can proclaim the gospel, but assured me that it was okay because it was a Children’s mass and it was not a Sunday. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks in advance. 🙂

Called our DRE from our parish, who also runs the schools Masses.

No. Absolutely not. First reading, fine; psalm and response leader, fine too. Not the Gospel. Ordinary minister, which is a priest or deacon.

As far as I know the Gospel is not to read by anyone other than an ordained Priest or Deacon.

What some places do is try to say that what the unauthorized reader is actually saying is a reflection or something of that sort.
