The questions are basic, but not everyone operates from the same premises and if the basic questions are not asked that might never be discovered. Having also asked some of these questions to people outside the forums I’ve come across some rather different views. Some questions that I ask are to reduce the potential for having misunderstood someone’s position and view.Aside from that, a boy with a female mother learns how to relate to other females, and vice versa. This stuff is so basic that I don’t even know why we are talking about it.![]()
I expect that many answers given in forums (not just this one) are necessarily incomplete and/or are summaries. All of these issues are too complex to give a simple, quantifiable answer.
Agreement might not be necessary. We might continue to have different responses to if one state is better off than another. But if one of us knows a bit about why the other sees a situation as “better off” there can be understanding even if evaluations disagree. You used the phrase “better off,” but before we can decide whether a child is better off, we have to agree on what “better off” means before even starting the conversation. I don’t think we can agree on that definition.
It might apply to all of humanity, but it may apply to some and contributes a role in explaining and justifying a perspective.I was raised by a single mother, and I could tell you about the concrete consequences I faced and face because of not having a father in my life, but you would probably respond with, “well, your situation is unique to you, and doesn’t apply to all of humanity.”
