Children: The Ultimate Stimulus Package

According to the reasoning, if it can be called that, of the likes of Margaret Sanger and company, we would all be better off if we reduced the world’s population. “The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it,” the famous feminist once said.[1]
Code:
Steven Mosher, head of the Virginia-based Population Research Institute [PRI], happens to see things from a different perspective. That is, we need larger families to address the current financial crisis among other benefits. Higher birth rates and a revised tax code favoring children would do a lot to stimulate depressed economies.

Mosher clearly admits that low fertility rates are not solely responsible for our current economic woes, however they do play a significant role. Every child is born with a mind capable of being educated and myriad talents that can be developed. This combination of qualities can easily be put to use to solve problems and boost productivity. Creating an entitlement mentality generation does not.

The Social Trends Institute published an article titled “The Sustainable Demographic Dividend,” exposing the myth that low fertility rates equal sustainable economic prosperity. [[2]](http://www.tfp.org/tfp-home/news-commentary/children-the-ultimate-stimulus-package.html#children-the-ultimate-stimulus-package-2) It is true that a nation can realize this benefit in the short term, however it is the long term ill effects that we are now realizing in many countries.

All we have to do is look at the European economy during the time of the Black Plague when population dropped 33%. The economy was horrible.

The problem with “overpopulationists” is that they won’t say that they themselves are the surplus - it is always someone else.

Good point - I don see one of them volunteering to die for the cause. Some volunteer their unborn though. 😦

Here in the Philippines, they plan to volunteer the urban poor!

Our Church brought in a wonderful speaker several months ago who gave a series of lectures on the importance of the family - mostly how the relationship and religious involvement of the parents has an affect on the children, and how the family unit as a whole affects education, politics, economics, religion, and community.

He made an amazing point about Europe - look at the nation’s with declining birth rates over the last 10-15 years and see who has economies in the dump (Ireland, Spain, Greece, etc). What do you think will happen to China in 20 years when all of their men have to leave the country to find brides? What happens to these countries who cannot supply enough children to fill their work force?

Interestingly enough, he said married men and fathers tend to get paid more and are promoted faster, and the psychology behind that is they have someone else to care for, so they cannot afford to slack off or skate by, so that makes them more productive, and therefore, more likely to get raises/promotions. The economics are there, but no one wants to admit that the core, traditional family is what is best, because if that is best, all of the other types of ‘families’ cannot be ‘equal’.

“For behold, the days are coming when they will say, `Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never gave suck!’” - Luke 23:29

…Unless of course, you have children you can’t afford, in which case our tax dollars have to pay.

The 40 million plus abortions have cost this country 33 trillion dollars in economic activity.

I don’t think anyone here is saying abortion is the answer either. The ultimate stimulus is for people to be responsible and make responsible decisions, in ALL the aspects of their lives. Popping out a bunch of babies won’t necessarily help anything if you can’t afford them.

I never put a price tag on my children.

there is no price tag, but you have to feed them and clothe them at the very least. To say that they don’t cost money is just untrue. If this were the case, our government wouldn’t be spending our tax dollars to help mothers care for the children they couldn’t afford.
