Hope this is in the right place. I have a 9 y/o grand daughter who is asking for a Bible for Christmas. She has one we got her a few years ago. Now she wants one for older kids. Can anyone suggest what might be appropriate? I was thinking about getting her a regular Bible with more “modern” language. I am open to suggestions.

Thanks!
Kathy

the Breakthrough Bible from St. Marys Press, is the Good News Translation Catholic edition with imprimatur, with sidebars and stories on bible characters lots of additional content labeled “study it”, “pray it” and “live it” which help children apply the scripture to real life and make connections to Catholic teaching. It has anime style illustrations, many in full color.

There are good maps, bible timeline, glossary, and “Read This First” which you should that explains the study helps and how to use them. The intro to each book explains when it was written, by whome, how organized, OT connection to Jesus explained, key themes and people etc, and how it fits into the Salvation History timeline.

These were donated to the Parish and are now used for middle graders 4th-6th and are very popular, most families have purchased one to have at home. There is also a study guide for an OT and NT course, which one of our post-communion class uses. Our teachers and students find it much easier to use than the NAB cheap editions with all those confusing footnotes.

comes in harcover or paperback which is a strong coated paper and good quality binding and acid free paper. Small, light type by my standards, but then I can’t read much of anything anymore. Kids seem to have no problem with it.
