Does anyone know of some really expressive and knowlegable Catholic learning tools for children 3yr to 6,7 or 8 yrs old to learn their faith. Even tapes. Something to really get their attention away from things that have been given them through the media that are non religion healthy.(through no vault of their own) Its hard to find something just on the spot. Their are many many good tapes videos and books but need something right away, something impressive that would ocuupy them steadily.
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is yet to come. We have only today. If we help our children to be what they shoud be today, they will have the necessary courage to face life with greater love.

(Forgive me if I do not remember these titles as exactly as possible.)

There is a little booklet called, “My first little Gospel book” that is great for the little ones. (The company that puts out that book – “Living with Christ”-- also puts a little booklet out for the Mass, one for Catholic prayers, etc.)

There is a DVD out there made by the Rosary Project called “Holy Baby.” It is like a Catholic Baby Einstein video (The Rosary in 7 languages).

Make your own flashcards!!! I had fun doing this for my daughter. Just take some good, sturdy cardboard, some old Catholic magazines, cut, paste, and catechize! (I did cards on the Sacred Heart, the Blessed Mother, the Eucharist, the Holy Father, saints, etc.)

Another thing I like to do… My daughter and I go on little pilgrimages to some of the older, more beautiful Churches in the area. Usually, those churches have more stained glass images, statues, icons, murals, etc… You can really do some teaching in those sacred places without really teaching. I usually stay as long as possible after Mass to explain some of the images and let her touch some of the statues.

Have fun!

We’ve got that one. It’s very good for the toddler to pre-school set. My 6 year old son knows his 'Hail Mary" in Latin, Spanish and French 🙂

It’s probably a bit baby-ish for above 5.

Try this for the older kids

The Rosary for Little Children

Also from CCC (Creative Communication Center) are some great videos on the lives of major saints (Patrick, Francis of Assisi, Juan Diego and others)

Great Stuff!

The Life of St. Dominic Savio by Peter Lappin

I first read it when I was eight and read it over & over until I was 15. It was hugely important in forming my faith. St. Dominic was a boy in St. John Bosco’s oratory & you get the advice John Bosco gave him on how to live a Christian life.

Blessings Every Day- 365 simple devotions for the very young- Catholic edition.

There are also little spiral bound books called “Catholic Quiz” for different grade levels. You could make a game out of answering the questions.

In Christ,
Nancy 🙂
