Children's Hymn from the 70's

I learned a little song when I was young and attended Catholic Grade School in Delaware County, PA. It was called “All That I Am” or at least I think that was the name of it. I’d like to teach this song to my CCD/Religious Education Students. I know most of the lyrics go something like this :
All that I am, all that I do
All that I’ll ever have I offer now to you

All that I dream, all that I pray
All that I’ll ever make, I give to you today

Take and sanctify these gifts, for your honor Lord.
Knowing that I love and serve you, is enough reward.

All that I have, all that I ____
All that I’ll ever ___, I ___ to you today.

If anyone remembers this song and either knows the lyrics or knows where to find them, please let me know.

Ah yes, Sebastian Temple from 1967. The lyrics you had are right. We still sing that at Mass, much to my dismay and we sing

I don’t read music so I’m not sure that we’re doing it right but we sing
Verses 1 & 2
followed by Chorus
then verse 1
followed by Chorus
then verse 2

That’s how it seems to be written in Canada’s Catholic Book of Worship II.

Oh, no! I had almost erased this one from the memory banks!:eek:

We had to learn it for our Confirmation way back in 1968. Yikes!!
Need I say I never liked it.

Now it will be stuck in my dreams for at least a week!!:eek:
 
I, too, have very bad memories of that song. Something that makes it problematic is that it’s all about “me/I” and very little about God. In this case, we are the focus, not God. Why not teach the children some of the older hymns that have a lot more spiritual and theological meat and potatoes to them? Some of these include Shepherd of Souls, and Holy, Holy, Holy.

I have been taught very often by good teachers that the offertory of the Mass is the time for us to offer ourselves to God along with the gifts of bread and wine. We place our work, our prayer, our joys and sufferings, as well as our very selves on that paten with the host. I think this text (in spite of its poor musical setting) expresses this very well, especially for children.

In fact, it reminds me of one of the prayers in my old St. Joseph Daily Missal - the prayer of St. Ignatius:
Take, O Lord, and receive my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding and my whole will. All that I am and all that I possess You have given me. I surrender it all to You to be disposed of according to Your will. Give me only Your love and Your grace, and with these I will be rich enough, and will desire nothing more.

Thank you Everyone!!! I actually loved that song as a little girl. To me it is a good reminder that all the things I do should be for God’s Glory - to stay focused on Him - and that He is there with us at all times. Just a little bit of background here… I am teaching children that are ages 3 - 5, so I need short little songs so that they can remember them. Last year, I taught them the song “Day By Day” and they loved it. Since I still have a few of the same children from last year, I wanted to teach them another song. Thank you again for the quick responses. I was quite amazed since this was my first post. Take care and enjoy the rest of your evening,

I agree. A beautiful prayer. It’s not about “me” it’s about God in relation to “me.” Brought back good memories. Thanks.
