Beijing, Mar 2, 2008 / 03:32 pm (CNA).- China is considering the elimination of its controversial one-child policy in response to an aging population and a gender imbalance created by sex-selective abortion, Reuters reports.

The present policy usually limits families to one child, or two children if they live in the countryside.

“We want incrementally to have this change,” Vice Minister of the National Population and Family Planning Commission Zhao Baige told reporters in a Beijing talk about possible changes to the policy.

This certainly is some good news for Chinese Catholics and others. 🙂 Once this is fully incremented, it will mean no more forced abortions hopefully! 👍 However, we must still pray for China. :signofcross:

This is a ploy in preparation for the Beijing Olympics…

An annoucement was made to get into all the headlines around the world (probably at about the same time something they didn’t want making headlines occured)…

Follow this story up in 6 months or after the Olympics… There was NEVER any chance this was serious.

Can you imagine a nation of one-child families?
No brothers.
No sisters.
No aunts.
No uncles.
No neices.
No nephews.
No cousins.

I believe family is the basic building block of any civilised society. I don’t like where China is headed. It’s kind of scary to think about it - socially and economically. I can’t imagine a nation of elderly people with not enough young ones to look after them.

I actually believe they are reconsidering it…and when they are done, they will either keep it the same or come up with something even more dreadful.
