I have received a question from Confirmation parents regarding the selection of a “Blessed” as their child’s Confirmation name. What is the position of the Church in choosing a “Blessed”. In this case the Confirmande wants to select Blessed Teresa of Calcutta (an excellent choice!). Are than any practices that would prohibit this selection?
Thank you.

I believe that a “confirmation name” is a matter of custom in certain places rather than something required in the Rite of Confirmation. AFAIK, there’s nothing in the Rituale Romanum mandating a “confirmation name” (at least not that I’ve never seen).

Correct. I was confirmed under my own name.
