Choosing a Confirmation name - can a woman choose a male Saint?

Does this mean males can choose woman’s names also?

I had a really macho-looking young man take the name of St. Teresa of Avila this year. The Bishop spluttered a bit, when he read out the name.

I certainly wouldn’t choose Faustus as that venerable doctor came to a very fiery end.

Mary seems to be very popular among the tertiary. I haven’t heard too many men taking female Confirmation names, though.

I could’ve sworn I remembered that, at the very end, God intervened & the doctor was taken to heaven. But, given the thing that most people remember is “sold soul to devil”, it’s probably not a very good choice.

I will be taking “Teresa” of Calcutta for my confirmation name (at age 47) this Saturday.
