How involved are you with the Novus Ordo children’s ministry? Do you really know what goes on in there? If your liberal parish is as bad as you say it is, how do you know you really want your kid learning what they might be teaching in there.I’m not concerned because I think anyone will pressure her - they’re not bible thumping evangelicals at that church. Specifically the thing that is of concern to me is the “children’s litrugy” which they have at the liberal parish that I currently attend and they also have at the united methodist church her grandpa goes to. That children’s liturgy in contrast to the TLM is what I think will make the TLM seem boring to her.
Seriously, I introduced my son to the TLM when he was five and he loved it. I took him to the short weekday low mass at first, just to get him used to it. He was very excited at how different it was. Of course he didn’t understand a word, but that didn’t seem to matter to him. He was more intrigued with the ritual and bells. By the end of his first mass he ways saying “Et cum Spiritu tuo.” No kidding! The last greeting of the mass, and he responded to it - appropriately! It shocked the heck out of me. Don’t sell your kids short. You would be surprised what they pick up and what they like. Never assume. Kids have a way of surprising us. Now my son is six, and he tells me he would rather go to a TLM over a Novus Ordo every time. That’s just him, no prompting from me, that’s just what he wants.
