Choosing a Pope from outside of the Papal conclave

some young priest just out of law school with doctoate in theology and absolutely no baggage ??!!??

First, if I were a betting man, I would bet my last dollar they will not pick a Pope outside of the conclave. The conclave has come to be considered the grooming school for new Popes. It’s not like the old days, at least I don’t think it is, when some rich and/or famous nobleman might get the nod.

It does not even have to be a priest (they can ordain him later), or even someone with a doctorate in theology. Peter did well with a degree in the school of hard knocks as a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee. Saint Francis, although not a Pope, did more to renew the Church than maybe any other man, and he was probably not near as bright as some of those who followed him. David was a lowly shepherd, yet God made him King of the nation of Israel.

The “no baggage” factor is certainly appealing. It was appealing in recent years in an American Presidential race. Judge for yourself how that turned out. My fantasy Pope would have a good background in Church matters, brilliance in theological matters, high moral character and virtue, an easy kindness about him, inner strength in face of opposition, but not stubbornness, wisdom in things simple and profound, down to earth yet commanding respect, and a great communicator. haha I might be describing Jesus with all those attributes!

I just hope the Holy Spirit has His way in this, but we know He does not force His way. God has given it to these few men to elect the next Pope, and He’ll let them have their way. A part of me, however, hopes He has a plan to trick them into electing the right man, even if that is not their intention (God forbid).

enjoyed your comment about no baggage and current president problems… so you are right that no baggage does not make it sure a person does well… or as we would like

Well let us pray…and then let us pray some more…I am concerned with the perception that some news channels seem to be fertilizing…and so many errors…and so many people who know even less than this ignorant child… Wouldn’t ’ it be wonderful to see The Church of Peter and the “Church of Paul” united ? Then maybe…Well a miracle such as that might even combine all of Abraham’s children…:compcoff:
