men have to pick men, and women women. men and women
also can only have one of their own gender as a sponsor as far
as i know.
this is simply not true, please don’t make such claims without authorotative attribution. You can choose either a male or female saint for Confirmation, you can have either a male or female sponsor as long as they are otherwise qualified.

a priest from the TLM where i go told me that, so please don’t reprimand for something i was told.now that i KNOW you don’t need to scorn me out. so much for a CHARITABLE post.

you needn’t restrict yourself to just ONE patron saint - you can have as many patrons as there are saints!
Really? Then why do people fret about singling out just one for their confirmation name? Or must we just have one saint designated as the patron for our confirmation name, allowing the others to be patrons in other ways?

I’m not trying to be scornful, but I agree with Annie- I don’t think this is true. It may have been in the past, or it may have been common practice, which is probably why your priest told you what he did. In fact I think it still is pretty common practice. But I don’t believe we’re limited by genders. And the sponsor thing is also not true. I’ve seen many boys sponsored by sisters, aunts, grandmas, and conversely, many girls sponsored by brothers, uncles, or grandpas.

take into consideration, but i was told that by the priest and what i told you here is what was told to me. i NEVER lied about this either. i told the truth based on what was told to me. THATis a FACT. perhaps things have changed, but i told the truth. i do not consider you scornful, only stating your point in a charitable way. the sponsor thing is true for me, because i had asked the priest if i could have the couple that i had wanted to sponsor me, and he told me no, you can only have his wife as a sponsor in fairness to me, i told the truth based on what was told to me. that is a FACT.
