Choosing Confirmation Saints

How did you choose your confirmation Saint? I am getting confirmed next year and so far, I am thinking about St. Therese, St. Monica and St. Mary Magdalen. I also really like Pope John Paul II, but I don’t want to take a male name.

Personally, I chose my confirmation saint based on who I felt especially close with (St. Josemaria of Escriva). Likewise, I would suggest choosing a saint you feel a connection with, or one you look up to as a role model.

As for the gender of the saint, I wouldn’t worry too much! In my confirmation class, there were several people who chose a male saint when they were female or vice versa. It really shouldn’t be a concern

Mine was easy. My name is Jeremy and my parents named me after Jeremiah the prophet. I’ve been Byzantine for sometime now and our “name day” is just as important, if not more, than our own birthday.

How did you choose your confirmation Saint?

Maybe a particular St you have an affinity towards? Find some Sts that share your first or middle name and learn about them?

I chose mine because I liked the sound of the name with my other given names.
We weren’t given very good guidance or catechesis.
I did have sort of a hokey reason which I told the adults to make it sound more legit.
My mother thought maybe I picked it because of a teacher (crabby religious sister ) who I had a love-hate relationship with, who had that name.
So I was allowed to keep the name.

I more or less forgot about my saint after that for about the next 40 years.
Then she came back into my life in a very dramatic way, not a way i would have expected.
Now i love her and pray to her almost every day.
She’s a good egg and helped me a lot.
I think sometimes they do choose us.

How did you choose your confirmation Saint?

I chose Joseph. I chose him because I literally know countless people named Joseph, but more importantly, because I say a prayer to him every night (There’s also an indulgence associated with that prayer), and also he is the patron saint of Canada where I live.

I asked Our Lord to show me what He wanted. In a dream one night I saw an image of St. Agnes, and that’s what I chose as my Confirmation name. My siblings are Theresa, Sebastian, Christopher, Peter, and George. They chose saints who were special to them.

I tried to figure out my patron saint by doing research on them i chose one but my mother (not catholic) got upset about it and I looked at other Saints as well i tried to find ones with family names (siblings middle name,or parents middle name ) none of them seemed to fit and I got to a point where I just gave up and waited a saint to pick me and it happened mine is st Christina of tyre. I felt most connected with her because of the similar issues I was having with my family at the time,felt like they had turned away from me because I became a catholic (converted from the United Methodist church)

If the choice would be easy were he not male.

Otherwise do you have more of a connection with the story of one?

For example if you wish to bring family back to or into the faith I’d choose St. Monica.

If you are attracted to the little way ir Carmalite spirituality I’d pick St. Therese.

If you have a St. Augstine like past I would pick St Mary Magdaline.

If that hasn’t made the choice any easier and I have to choose now I’d choose based on how it flows with the rest of my name.
