acts17verse28.blogspot.com/2009/06/choosing-not-to-keep-baby.html is one of the most disturbing lines of thought I’ve read about in a while - a woman who decided to abort her baby because (a) she was in a demanding graduate program, (b) she wanted to do something for herself for a change, and (c) she was too attached to “the little zygote” to allow someone else to adopt the baby.

What do you SAY to someone like that?

If she’s so “attached” to it, why have an abortion? I’m sure there would probably be a crisis pregnancy center near enough to her where she can go for help. Besides, if she didn’t want a baby, why was she “playing the game”?

Why won’t she consider adoption? See the link in the original post.
Crazy, sad, heartbreaking.

I heard a great talk at a conference once called “Splitting the Baby,” about the story in the OT where two women approached Solomon with a dispute over who a particular baby belonged to. Both of the women had recently had babies, but one of these babies had recently died. When Solomon suggested that they split the baby in half, the woman who had lost her own baby and had stolen this new one, was agreeable. The real mother was appalled and said she’d rather she the child raised by someone else than see the child die. By this, Solomon knew who the true mother was. Today we have a similar phenomenon in our society. Women who are in crisis pregnancy situation are like the woman whose baby died in the OT. They are so hurt over not being able to raise their own children that they’d rather kill it than have anyone else experience the joy of mothering a child.

Adoption is about choosing life in the most generous way.
Abortion is about ending life in the most selfish way.

If your friend carries the baby to term, and gives the child up for adoptiion, God will bless her a hundred-fold for her gift - it is painful and horribly hard, but God can NEVER be outdone in generosity.

Abortion is a disatrous choice for the woman and her guilt will eat her alive.
Adoption is a blessed choice and a jewel in her crown for eternity.
Her sacrifice will cover many sins and faults earning her salvation.

Only pray for God’s Holy Will.

“Even though the adoption agency can pay my medical costs and set me up with adoptive parents for maternity shopping, grocery shopping, birthing classes and all kinds of programs, it didn’t feel like enough. I told the director how scared and lonely I’ve been and he just said, “I know. I can tell. We’ll take this one step at a time”… but I already feel so attached to the little zygote inside of me (my friend named it Ziggy) that I don’t think I could carry a baby to term just to give it away. The mere thought of handing my child to someone else, as altruistic as it is, breaks me.”
I’ve seen this sort of thinking often in the abortion debates, and I’m just stumped. It baffles me that a woman could express such attachment to her unborn child, and because of that, because she’s afraid of the pain of parting with the child at birth, elect to kill it rather than consider adoption.

It used to baffle me too - still does in a way, but I KNOW how hard it is. I allowed myself to treasure my child - it’s probably almost impossible to stay detached carrying a child to term - even though I knew that I planned on giving the baby up. I was unmarried and I could not give my child all she needed or all she deserved as could the loving, stable couple that I prayed God chose for my baby. I spent the entire pregnancy in love with my child, and through God’s grace in love with her parents to be. I could have stipulated that I would be allowed to know her or her name etc., anything I wanted, but even that God gave me the grace to do the best thing for my baby and her parents.

Still I will not lie to you of the excruciating pain in handing her over - my whole soul screamed out in pain, but again there was no part of me that did not agree or understand it as God’s will. She was my gift back to HIM and He had great plans for her and for me.
In time the pain was replaced with a warm spot in my heart of prayer and love for my angel and her parents. It is my fondest wish that some day we will meet now that she is an adult, but if it is God’s will that be in Heaven, so be it.

God blessed me a thousand fold for my selfless gift! When the time came for me to marry and have children, we opened our arms to God’s will and He filled them with eight beautiful souls. GOD IS SO GOOD!

Thank you for your comments. May God bless you for the suffering you endured for love of your child.

Adoption is selfless. If a woman loves her baby, she should want to do what is best for him or her and try to give the child a good life, not kill the child. And if a woman is really willing to kill her child because of a demanding program or because “she wanted to do something for herself,” then that would be incredibly selfish.

that is so tragic 😦

Lord have mercy…

I agree with everyone else here that adoption is a selfless act… and I don’t understand how this young woman could say that she’s too attached to the baby to give it to another family, but not to kill it!! 😦
