Tomorrow night I’ve been selected from my RCIA group to present the Chrism/oil that is to be used in sacraments for my parish throughout the next year. What’s this mass like? Anyone else done this?

Big Mass, lots of Priests. Everyone will be really supportive of you. And so happy you are coming home to the Catholic Church. Walk proudly tomorrow

I presented the Chrism oil last year. You’ll have a short passage of text to read which asks the Bishop to consecrate the oil…and on Saturday he’ll anoint you with it at your confirmation.
I’d never seen so many priests in one place apart from Vatican footage on EWTN. Do let us know how it goes…

Are you presenting to the bishop at the Chrism Mass or to your parish at the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper?

My Priest said today, the baptism oil is pretty special. The Bishop administers it and the Holy Spirit then fills the recipient.

I’ve been to a couple of chrism masses. They’re pretty epic. In our diocese we have about 80 priests concelebrating the Eucharist.

That was a much bigger to do than I was led to believe lol. But I really liked it. I’ll prpjably go again next year. I was not told I was gong to have to get up and read in front of everyone.

At my parish, the three oils are brought up in procession one at a time. Arriving at the front, the oil bearer turns, faces the people and raises the oil. The cantor then announces the oil with a brief description in English and Spanish to which the people respond “Olay!”
