There is a coach going to norwich cathedral but I don’t know what it is all about can someone enlighten me many blessings Andrew

The Chrism mass is when the bishop blesses the oils for the parishes in the diocese for their use during the upcoming year. Priests that attend are able to renew their vows during this mass.

I would love to go to the chrism Mass one year. I think I may have that day off next year…

I would say “yes”…GO!

I missed the “should I go?” Yes, wholeheartedly yes. If you can get tickets to the mass and a spot on the bus, go.

It’s the Mass where a select few parishoners go to the local cathedral to retrieve the holy oils that will be used throughout the liturgical year. Priest who attend also renew their priestly vows.

I am actually going to the Chrism Mass this year with another two people to get the oils. I am so excited!

We invite all, especially the RCIA. We hold dismissals for the catechumens and candidates in three languages. It is one of the ceremonies that unites the diocese into one visible flock.

Norwich Cathedral is Anglican, i.e., Episcopalian. Has it been lent to the Catholic dioc esan?

Check with your Diocese first to see if it is open to all. In some Dioceses it isn’t because of space limitations in the Cathedral. It would be a shame to plan to attend but not be able to. Many places send representatives from each parish, plus of course, the priests and deacons because of this. This is how it is in my Diocese.

I’m going to the Chrism Mass for my diocese today actaully, in just like a few hours 😃

Now I am talking to myself! The Catholic Diocese of East Anglia has its Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Norwich.
I should have Googled first!:o

Candidates are not typically dismissed, just the Elect.

Ok I went, got back like an hour ago… just wow! If you haven’t went, go… definitely.

I went to my first Chrism Mass this past Monday and WOW is the right word! It was just awesome, powerful and such a great Mass! Nothing like 100 priests in one church at one time and all saying Mass together! The Church was packed and since one of our parish churches is bigger than our cathedral that was where it was held.
I agree with all, if you have never been to a Chrism Mass, make plans now to go next year, just a really great experience. 🙂

I reccomend going to anyone. Just make sure you’ve got some time. It can be lengthy.
Our Chrism Mass was postponed from yesterday until today due to the flooding. I usually sing at this Mass with the diocessean choir but couldn’t make the rescheduled time because of work.
I would check ahead as other posters have mentioned. Our cathedral is small and the Chrism Mass is usually by ticket only.

My Diocese had Chrism Mass this morning. It was nearly two hours long. Beautiful service, beautiful cathedral(First time I had been to it). The Apostolic Nuncio presided over it due to the fact that our Archdiocese’s Bishop resigned December last year

I would definitely recomend going

My son and I went to the Chrism Mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Scranton yesterday. Our new bishop won’t be installed until April 26, so Cardinal Rigali was the Principal Celebrant and Homilist. We had never been to the Cathedral before. My priest suggested going an hour early to be sure we would get a seat, because much of the seating would be reserved. He was right! We got there nearly an hour and a half before the Mass, and got to look around. What a beautiful Cathedral - the artwork and the architecture were just awesome. We also heard the entire choir rehearsal (with organ, tympani, oboe, bells, etc.) - just beautiful!! The acoustics were amazing. And we got to watch the deacons rehearse for the procession and blessing of the oils.

The procession of the Crucifix, incense, priests, bishops and the Cardinal was so powerful. And people sang!!! There must have been 150 or so priests there! Hearing them renew their priestly commitment, then all gather around the Altar for the Eucharist was just awesome. I received Communion from Cardinal Rigali, and got to speak with him and shake his hand afterwards.

‘Awesome’ is the best word I have to describe the Mass and the experience overall. If you can’t go to your Chrism Mass, here is the video of the Chrism Mass from Scranton. See for yourself:

I already plan to go next year! If you have the chance to go - by all means - GO!! It will only serve as an inspiration as the Triduum and Easter approach.

God bless,
Linda
