Mary Magdalene and the other Mary had prepared spices, they did not have time on the Friday before the start of the Sabbath, they were not allowed to on the Sabbath, it was then dark on the first day of the week so they couldn’t go, and then on Sunday morning at the earliest possible time they went to the tomb with the prepared spices.

This is a problem for extending the time frame because it would require sequential sabbaths in order to prevent Mary Magdalene and the other Mary going to the tomb earlier.

Wednesday would require 3 sequential sabbaths, Thursday would require 2 sequential sabbaths.

According to Luke that is not the case. Mary and the other women prepared the spices first, and then rested the following day, a Sabbath.

Luke 23:56 - “And they (the women) returned and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.”

But in John, Joseph of Arithmathea and Nicodemus brought spices already with them on Good Friday:

39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.[e] 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.

What do you make of what Joseph and Nicodemus do to the body after immediately being taken down from the cross?

Unlike the women, Nicodemus brought spices with him on the very day of Christ’s death (not necessarily on a Friday). He, together with Joseph of Arimathaea used these when burying the body of Jesus immediately after they took the body down from the cross. Jesus’ body was placed in the tomb before the day ended [at sunset] and a new day begins [which happened to be a Sabbath].

I wonder if people have noticed that Jesus staked His claim of being the prophesied Messiah upon remaining dead for exactly 3 days and 3 nights. The Jews asked Jesus for a sign so they would know He was that Messiah prophesied in their Scripture and Jesus’ only sign for them was not just the fact that He would be resurrected, but also the length of time He would be dead before being resurrected.

The fulfillment of that sign is crucial to Jesus’ claim of being the Savior of the world. If He did not fulfill it, we can dismiss Him as an impostor. I believe we, as Christians, should account for the 3 days and 3 nights of Christ’s death if we do not want to be worshipping an impostor.
