I am a hero who never fails.
I cannot be bothered with such details.
You must be a legend in your own mind. Jesus Christ is the only one, the Holy One. He caused many to fear, and think they somehow, were a hero. Judas thought he was a hero.
There are hero’s in this world today.
They are the ones who take no credit for their selfless acts.
They do not pretend to save the world like Spiderman, or Superman or even Underdog.
They actually do it without recognition most of the time.
Or any temporal reward.

That’s the point of this thread. How great of a salvation do we have in Jesus Christ? I think the Roman Catholic view of the person and work of Jesus Christ falls short of the mighty work that Jesus actually accomplished for whom God foreknew. What did Jesus accomplish in His life and death on behalf of those God has chosen?

If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? - Rom 8

Hello again Underdog!

I hope you understand, that I am just trying to understand where you are coming from.
You know what I see so far?
A person who really loves Jesus, but in their zeal somehow feels they are the only ones who do love Him, and that everyone else is somehow falling woefully short of that same zeal and devotion.
I am interested in why you think that Jesus is somehow not understood properly by catholics. If you could explain to me exactly how that is, I can reply to you better.🙂
Bear in mind, I am not a catholic. But, as you see there are others here that are, and I am sure they will correct me if I step off into misrepresentation of their (and God please, soon I will be also share) beliefs.

Hate to tell you “sport”… you may be a legend in your own mind, but the impression you’re painting of yourself is far from heroic. You might want to pay some attention to the details, as they can become “tripping stones”…
Ahh come on…Underdog is pointing to Jesus Christ as supreme for us Christians. Jesus Christ rules and reigns.

Spiritual Blessings in Christ

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us [2] for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known [3] to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee [4] of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, [5] to the praise of his glory.

Thanksgiving and Prayer
15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love [6] toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. - Ephesians 1

“It is finished” - Jesus Christ

What do you think Jesus meant by this proclamation of truth?

Underdog, Christ IS everything. You won’t get a debate about that with any catholic.
So much so, that you really must try going to mass, even just once to see.

“It is finished” - Jesus Christ

What do you think Jesus meant by this proclamation of truth?
He did not mean my laundry will always be finished from that day.
He did not mean I can ignore his words he spoke before that day.
What do you think he meant by it is finished?
I have my own ideas.
What are yours?

Ummm…the only one who never fails is Christ. Even St. Paul faught against desires of the flesh.
Philippians 3

Righteousness Through Faith in Christ

3:1 Finally, my brothers, [1] rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you.

2 Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. 3 For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God [2] and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh— 4 though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, [3] blameless. 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

I don’t have a reference Church Militant. Either my understanding is correct, or you need to correct it with official RC teaching. Does the Treasury of Merit contain more than the righteousness of Jesus Christ which He merited by His life and death?
Beyond the point that you appear to ardently place limits on God and His Kingdom to fit your particular agenda… its obvious that you have little of no understanding of the “Treasury of Merit”. Perhaps it is good that you came here to this site…where you can be properly educated to reality and those things that your were taught in error by persons in error:

You can read this link… Oh, go ahead, whatcha’ got to lose?
cantuar.blogspot.com/2006/06/indulgences-and-treasury-of-merit.html Its just the recounting of the issue by a former Episcopal Priest. Hmmmm, maybe you know more about “theology” than he does?

And here: scborromeo.org/ccc/p2s2c2a4.htm#X

1476 We also call these spiritual goods of the communion of saints the Church’s treasury, which is "not the sum total of the material goods which have accumulated during the course of the centuries. On the contrary the ‘treasury of the Church’ is the infinite value, which can never be exhausted, which Christ’s merits have before God. They were offered so that the whole of mankind could be set free from sin and attain communion with the Father. In Christ, the Redeemer himself, the satisfactions and merits of his Redemption exist and find their efficacy."88

1477 "This treasury includes as well the prayers and good works of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They are truly immense, unfathomable, and even pristine in their value before God. In the treasury, too, are the prayers and good works of all the saints, all those who have followed in the footsteps of Christ the Lord and by his grace have made their lives holy and carried out the mission in the unity of the Mystical Body."89

So where’s your problem?

One can only venture to think that you are an adherent to sola scriptura, or more than one “sola”… strange, the word “sola”, it means “only” but there are what??? FIVE solas??? At any rate, there is absolutely nowhere in the Bible that names or dictates or endorses any “sola”, therefore it would appear that you are dining heartily at the table of “truly man-made religion”

Please don’t make the error of thinking that we don’t know where you are coming from. Its easy to tell, just as its easy to see how “disingenuous” you have been since the beginning. Lest you puff up your chest and think you are the first, nay, nay…many have come and tried before you…and have failed as miserably as you will in your pernicious efforts.

You’re kind of fun…but before you get too ahead of yourself, you might want to go to this link…its here on this site… and read the site rules…there are details that you need to be very aware of, like the fact that posting the Underdog stuff is a violation. Disney owns the copyright on it…you are infringing on their copyright, and violating forum rules, and a couple of other rules… Read here

Nothing of the kind is happening. The “dog” is doing no such thing. The only thing that’s happening here…is that a foolish and apparently woefully unversed individual is arrogantly try to “preach to the choir”.

By the way… my 4 year granddaughter can cut and paste…

I agree.
I just don’t see why you are not a catholic then!🙂
notsmart…“underdog” has a small impediment to his/her beliefs. He/she is apparently an avowed “Paul worshipper”. Thus far, so far as I can tell…almost every piece of scripture cited by this person is “Paul’s” writings. Apparently “underdog” hasn’t bothered to read any of the other parts of the Bible yet.

Jesus Rejoices in the Father’s Will

21 In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. [2] 22 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

23 Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.” - Luke

Well, in a way this is good as this poster should be aware of the church’s focus on Paul this year? I hope.
And I have encountered this thing with my non catholic christian friends. Two of them worship Paul to a degree that they almost lynched me when I said he was not even an eyewitness to Jesus’ ministry. (except for the vision, which was Jesus of course)
They don’t like the gospel of John so much.

Does this match what you were taught? Why doesn’t Jesus pray for the world? Why did Jesus only manifest the Father’s name only to those whom the Father gave Jesus to be out of the world?

John 17

The High Priestly Prayer

17:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.

I am self taught but, have been getting some great formation from a really nice old Irish priest with orthodox theology.
You would like him. I just know it. 🙂

I believe every word of this!

Can we look at other passages in the Gospel of John together?
Can we also, dig deeper together?

Let’s look closely at where Judas took the road to nowhere.
Where do you think he went wrong?
