Greetings,

Our pastor is looking to implement “Christ Renews His Parish” for the beginning of a men’s group at our church.

I remeber the old RENEW back in the 80s and did some digging and found out that the newere RENEW is prety questionable. But I’m assuming this is different? Anyone know anything about it or have any (name removed by moderator)ut?

THANKS!

I’m too young to have participated in RENEW, but I attended a CHRP retreated at my parish several years ago. It was an awesome experience, and I remain close with many of my CHRP brothers, none of whom I knew before the retreat. After the weekend, I was exhausted, but filled with the joy of the Spirit. I highly encourage anyone to attend

It is based on the Cursillo model if that helps…I’m involved and have seen much good come from it.

Christ Renews His Parish is a great program. It is not designed so much for catechesis but more for fellowship, praying with scripture, group prayer. It has a strong emphasis on the Holy Spirit.

I think the key is to following the manual very exactly.

RENEW is another program. Renew has changed quite a lot since Renew 2000 so do not compare the two.

Christ Renews His Parish is a separate program, and is intended for parish renewal and evangelization, not really for selected exclusive group within the parish. Suggest you first discern what the goals and purpose of the new group should be, then look for a program that meets your needs.

there are several old threads, one very recent, on both these programs and on the model of renewal programs based on small groups in general, worthwhile research.
