Dear Brothers and Sisters,

What a glorious Feast-day on this Last Sunday of the Liturgical Year - Christ the King! How appropriate to ponder our call to live our Baptismal Promises and continue learning to fortify the interior dispositions of our hearts! St. Louis de Montfort continues Chap. 7 of “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin” to explain:
  1. (b) These chains prove they are not ashamed of being the servants and slaves of Jesus and that they reject the deadly bondage of the world, of sin and of the devil.
They are a guarantee and protection against enslavement by sin and the devil. For we must of necessity choose to wear either the chains of sin and damnation or the chains of love and salvation.
  1. Dear friend, break the chains of sin and of sinners, of the world and the worldly, of the devil and his satellites. “Cast their yoke of death far from us.” To use the words of the Holy Spirit, let us put our feet into his glorious shackles and our neck into his chains. Let us bow down our shoulders in submission to the yoke of Wisdom incarnate, Jesus Christ, and let us not be upset by the burden of his chains. Notice how before saying these words the Holy Spirit prepares us to accept his serious advice, “Hearken, my son,” he says, "receive a counsel of understanding and do not spurn this counsel of mine."
  2. Allow me here, my dear friend, to join the Holy Spirit in giving you the same counsel, “These chains are the chains of salvation”. As our Lord on the cross draws all men to Himself, whether they will it or not, he will draw sinners by the fetters of their sins and submit them like galley-slaves and devils to his eternal anger and avenging justice. But He will draw the just, especially in these latter days, by the chains of love.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful; kindle in us the Fire of Your Love.

Dear Camehome4john6, ConcernedConvert and Stephie,

Thank you all for your hearts. May this Feast of Christ the King help all of us to grow closer to Jesus through Mary. May we stand with Mary, at the foot of His Cross and offer ourselves with Him as Mary did on Calvary!

Jesus Christ, King of the universe.

Dear Mark,

Thanks for your 'faithful heart" as well. May Jesus Christ the King, reign forever with Mary in our hearts always! Totus Tuus!

Dear PennyinCanada,

Thanks for the beautiful icon of Christ! I wondered if this was in a church in Canada – and one that was especially dear to you. How very powerful icons can be – as some have called them --"windows into heaven! " The Lord does seem to give us a special grace in prayer allowing us to go beyond the image. Thanks again, on this day after the Feast of Christ the king and in this last week of the liturgical year. Blessings to you and to all as we continue to approach the holy season of Advent.

Thanks pulchraesamicamea,

May He be praised, Our King and Our God – on the throne of our hearts, as Mary received Him in the Incarnation – Mary received Him physically, and by the power of the same Holy Spirit, we receive Him spiritually, in Baptism being given a share in His Life.

By His Grace may we prepare to receive Him anew during this coming season of Advent, with renewed graces of our Baptismal Faith, Hope and above all Charity.

Thanks, Greenfields, for your heart also, which let us know you continue to ponder the words given to St. Louis de Montfort. May this week be a holy preparation for the holy season of Advent for all of us.

I haven’t been in the RC church very long. Today the priest said that the feast was Christ the King but it has been changed to The Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the universe.
I like it!

Dear Penny,

Canada is a beautiful place and I’ve visited there a few times. Once made a pilgrimage to the Shrines of St. Anne, St. Joseph and Our Lady of the Lakes – all beautiful. Went back to make a Retreat at Madonna House in Cumbermere in Ontario, and had the privilege of meeting Catherine de Hueck Doherty (1896-1985), the foundress of Madonna House. I attended Midnight Mass in the Chapel there and it was glorious.

Perhaps you have also visited these places, or may visit them one day. Madonna House remains my favorite. I think it was in that chapel I first experienced the beauty of icons. 🙂

We have visited the shrine of St Joseph and Madonna House. You met Catherine de Hueck Doherty? How nice! Thank you for sharing!

Meeting a person (whose Cause for Canonization is now in Rome) is a great grace! 🙂

I asked Catherine a question at dinner one evening, and she gave me an answer I shall never forget. I asked her: "How does one learn to live ‘Evangelical Poverty’?

She answered: “What? You want to learn poverty like ABC in a book?” – Then, her next few words went straight into my heart – “Only God can teach you poverty!

So simple and true! I’ve never forgotten. I’m happy you are a member of the Holy Catholic Church, of which I too am a member. Please let us pray for one another and for all God’s children through our Mother Mary! Hope you will read "True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin, if you have not yet read it. Thanks again for reading this thread. It has been a blessing to share with you!
