Should the OP change the title to “Non-Catholic Christian and Catholic Christian Forums unhelpful” to make it clearer for you?
You should address that to the OP. My comment was to the OP. It seems many people don’t understand that Catholics are Christians but I expect all Catholics to know that. Catholics who continue to talk about Catholics and Christians simply exacerbate that issue.

OP, some time ago a friend who knows I’m active on CAF asked me about joining CAF and then wondered if she was better off joining the forum or doing more Catholic reading, etc. I told her reading good Catholic books was a far better way of growing as a Catholic. I don’t think Catholic forums are a good idea for some people and all should spend a modest amount of time here. I think I was a better Catholic before joining; my knowledge of Catholic teaching has been diluted by the abundance of erroneous opinions and the influx of anti-woman red piller types turned me into a feminist (that’s not a completely bad thing, I’ve found). On the flip side, the stridency and merciless attitude towards LGBTQ people has inspired me to be an ally, which is good.

I was immersed in a Catholic for sometime but it was within my parish family and prayer groups; we supported each other and were a safe place to be Catholic socially. When I moved I lost that and turned to internet sources which I’ve found are a poor substitute but beggars can’t be choosers. I suggest taking a break from the forum, read spiritual classics, find Catholic-friendly sources of entertainment to reset where you are in your faith life. CAF isn’t bad, but the benefits of it’s use needs to be individually, maybe daily, discerned.

What exactly would be qualified as merciless in regards to the LGBT. I have seen some support and some people seem to be somewhat respectful in their disagreements.

That’s off topic.
But...
read any of the threads on CAF; there are always thoughtless, harsh comments. If you don’t think they are bad you may be part of the problem.

I’ve seen you repeatedly embroiled yourself in the most divisive and often unchristian topics that come up in the forum. If you are doing this on other websites, I can totally understand why your online time feels more destructive than constructive.
This has been my observation, too. @Jump4Joy, most of the time when I see your posts, you are fighting battles. On this forum (and others, I’m sure), you will find every kind of outrageous opinion to set you off, if that’s what you’re looking for. Why let those people drive your attention and time? Rather than engaging with all the liberal vs. conservative battles, I found it better to avoid those threads (or at least don’t respond if I read them) and seek out the threads that are edifying. They are harder to find because they don’t stay on the front page with hundreds of rapid-fire comments, but they’re here.

After my first 2.5 years here, I had to take a 15 month break to readjustment my thinking. Since coming back with a different focus, I’ve found much more value here. I hope you have the same good fortune!

Hopefully I’ll come across something that changes me.
Change occurs from the inside out. You are right that fellowship with persons that have the kind of life you want to have is helpful, but internet fora are not the best place for it.

Change will come through your relationship with Jesus, and those who know Him well.
Are we even allowed to refer to ourselves as holy or are you kidding?
He is a jokester, but there are two meanings of holy. One is that a person or object has been set aside for God’s use. We refer to certain vessels as "holy " because they are dedicated to sacred use. This does not change the nature of the vessels themselves. So in that sense, we are all “holy” because we are consecrated to God.

The other use of “holy” is one who is sanctified (transformed) by grace to the person God has created them to be. Those who have been identified as saints have this kind of holiness, and we are all called to this kind of holiness.

In case you didn’t realise it Catholics ARE Christians!
It is a common mistake to fail to recognize that non-Catholic Christians are Protestants. Protestants promote this mistake by claiming they are not Protestant, but “Christian”.

There is even more confusion thrown into the mix by the fact that some of those Protestants don’t believe Catholics are Christians. 😫
Should the OP change the title to “Non-Catholic Christian and Catholic Christian Forums unhelpful” to make it clearer for you?
It would be more accurate to say Protestant and Catholic…

Thanks for opening up my eyes. I won’t be disappointed when people here do not share my view.

God bless you!!!

It’s like a bad candy addiction for me. Hopefully I’ll come across something that changes me.
I would say don’t look for it online. Online stuff can help increase knowledge, but I don’t think it is great at increasing holiness as such.

I think holiness is to be found through the sacraments, prayer, scripture and in real face to face encounters with our fellow men. As I think someone else has suggested, go to Eucharistic adoration.

I’ve read some of your questions.
You do seem to be stunted -
I hope you can grow up into better belief.

You have to be realistic about anonymous internet forums. It gives me the Catholic perspective on many issues which my non-Catholic peers can’t give me. A network of good face to face Catholics would obviously be better.

Start a subject. Something like how do I grow in holiness? After you take a break.

If the forum doesn’t help you to grow in communion with Christ then stay away from them.
