Christian and Hindu at the Same Time

I’m a sophomore in High School and I was discussing religion with my Indian friend and he said that he is both Hindu and Christian. He said that Hindus and Christians both believe in only one God and since there is only one God, he is both religions at the same time. I didn’t know how to respond to his claim and I’m wondering if anyone else knows how to respond.

It’s not just about number of gods, but what each religion believes about the nature of its gods. Ask your friend if he ever explored what each religion actually says about the nature of the divine and it’s implications on everything else. I have a feeling that he hasn’t.

I agree that it is not possible to be both a Christian and a Hindu at the same time, because there are so many important differences. However, it is possible to be a Hindu and believe in the Christ (I am a Hindu, but I believe in the divinity of the Christ - Muslims also believe in the Christ but they don’t believe he is divine). Perhaps that is what your friend meant?
 
I rejected a girl after she said something like that. First time I rejected someone.
 
Perhaps he means he accepts the Christ as an avatar of some sort but not as Only Begotten Son of God, born of theFather before all Ages, Light from Light, True God from True God, begotten not made, Consubstantial with the Father.

OOOOR perhaps he identifies as Hindu ethnically and is Christian in belief.
 
You can’t be both. I believe the Hindus have no problem with it- I think they even consider Jesus an avatar- but no Christian sect in its right mind would say you could be a Hindu as well. We teach radically different things about Him.
 
How can you be Hindu and believe Jesus is God? Do you believe he is just “a God” and not “the God?” I don’t understand how one can be both at once.

Actually I don’t believe Jesus is the God. He is what Hindus call an Avatar - a human being into whom God descends and who for the duration of his life, acts as the actual God. We have other Avatars like Rama and Krishna - they are essentially worshipped as ‘Gods’.
