I have this situation that at this point I do not know how to deal with. Besides prayer and reading scripture, the forums are my only other means of venting and learning… Im in a Christian program until November, there is no getting out of it (Not that I want to get out of it) But being Catholic in a Pentecostal Program is really hard. And its getting tougher. At this point I don’t even engage in debate anymore since it is a never-ending circle and serves no purpose here and I cant afford to be kicked out of here, I must complete it. Its to the point though that just reading scripture by myself (Catholic Bible) and reading about the sacraments and such, I find them coming up to me questioning me and when I answer they go and create an image that Im in some sort of rebellion and its so not the case- Im so frustrated- I feel like I just probably need to keep my mouth closed on all things and read not near anyone - its very unfair. Because I dont push nothing on anyone or judge anyone but I do back up the reasons of my Faith… Im at a loss. 😦

See my PM to you. And check out My Testimony and you’ll see I can understand how you feel.

Just ride it out and don’t engage unless you absolutely have to.

Is this Pentecostal group something you have to do as some kind of requirement for something? If it is not, then you might want to consider finding a Catholic Bible study class at your parish or a neighboring parish. If it is something that you have to do, then I agree with Church Militant, just ride it out and defend your faith where you have to (with respect), and then find a Catholic Bible study group!

Unfortunately, it is a requirement. And its not like Im miserable all the time. Im quite grateful in fact, but i feel im being tested. And its really tough and I feel cornered. I dont want to be disobedient. There are atheist and people of other religions that come into the program, and they are patient with them, but a Catholic Christian - There’s is a divide - And it just defeats the purpose of why we are all here. Idk… the more i pray on it the better im starting to feel…

Understanding the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, which are the true charisms, and praying to receive them -- say, through a novena to the Holy Spirit -- will help these people, who in fact are deluding themselves about the status of their souls & in the greatest danger of Hell because they believe that their imagined encounter with Jesus and miracles they've seen in their congregations mean that they're saved and have the truth. Faith, hope, and holy charity are greater than all the pretended charisms in the world; and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit sustain those things.

I was in a similar situation once. What I’ll tell you is that, what you are going through right now will pay off great dividends in the future in ways that you can’t imagine. God is preparing you! Stand your ground - understand that you are in a Spiritual battle, but don’t forget to dust off your feet after the truth has been rejected. 👍

hello, i would suggest that you get a copy of the “life in the spirit” program that is part of the catholic charismatic teaching, and view the differences , and commonalities,

there is a way to educate yourself- where the conflie=ct should dimish

i have been thru that program a couple times

Are you able to attend Mass while in this program?

No Catholic Mass - Nothing Catholic is really allowed… I have to hide my Catholic Bible. We have praise and worship, but its just you-tube videos of christian songs in the tabernacle.

Are you able to request visiting with a priest?

There’s not a byunch I can add to the above except this: don’t debate unless you are prepared. And when asked questions…answer WITH QUESTIONS if you answer at all (until you are comfortable enough with a topic to discuss it).

For example, “Is it true that Catholics believe…yada yada yada…?”

Ans: "Well, I don’t have a good answer for you at this time, but I will get back to you [in some amount of time, doesn’t matter as long as you keep your word here] when I do. In the meantime, is there a reason you believe Catholics believe in …yada yada yada… [like an actual Catholic source that correectly represents the belief] or is that just a rumor you heard?

Or if you are feeling spry and they actually correctly represent the Catholic teaching: “Is there something in the Bible that says I SHOULD’NT believe that?”

But mostly, if you get a question you are not comfortable with, offer to get them a good answer at your earliest opportunity, take your time to find the right answer, and then keep your word and DO get back to them. And don’t feel like you can’t stick to the similarities for now: “We believe in One God…the Holy Trinity…that Christ died for our sins…that God wants us to live with Him in eternity…” 🙂

Let them know you are after TRUTH…and that you want to take the time that TRUTH deserves to go and hunt it down, wherever it might be.
