So, as I try to move deeper into my relationship with Christ, I find myself increasingly uncomfortable with much of what has been my standard running music for years – basically, well-produced pop music, something with a driving beat that keeps me moving forward … Katy Perry, Pitbull, Shakira, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, etc. (This is just what I listen to for running; it doesn’t represent the full spectrum of my taste in music, so don’t judge!) However, now every innuendo hits me and makes me think, “Can this possibly be good for my spiritual health?” Not all of it is bad, but I feel like most of the songs on my playlist wouldn’t pass muster if examined with an eye toward spiritual well-being.
The question is, what can I replace it with that will offer a similar kind of sound but without the smut? I’ve tried a few Christian-rock playlists, but honest, I prefer pop to rock for running, and I’m not all that impressed with these guys singing in rough, angry voices about how great God is, even if I agree with their message.
Any suggestions?
